NIGERIAN PUFF PUFF WITH FRESH PEPPER

To make Nigerian puff puff with fresh pepper, all I do is wait till the dough is ready for frying. The pepper is either choppe and set aside or stir fried with seasoning. There are times I use real pepper sauce to make peppered puff puff.  I love puff puff hen they are spicy.

My kids don’t like pepper but not when it’s added to puff puff. When I start mixing dough and ingredients for their favorite snack (Oil bun is what they call it, lol).

On this post, I have the video peppered puff puff recipe and the written spicy puff puff recipe. Feel free to watch the video and make yours with milk and eggs added or use the one typed out below. Last night, after making these ones,I ate and ate and then blamed myself for making so much. This is one temptation I don’t know how to overcome.

Only God knows why I am not obese because I love real puff puff ehn? The oily, airy soft ones like these are my guilty pleasure.

Here I’m sharing with us all how I make Nigerian puff puff with fresh pepper.

INGREDIENTS:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoons instant yeast

5 tablespoons granulated sugar.

1/4  teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

3 and 1/2 cups warm water to start with.

Chopped Fresh peppers to taste. I like to remove the seeds to reduce the pepper heat.

Depending on your measurements, you might need more water before the batter becomes a bit thicker than the Nigerian pancake batter.

DIRECTION FOR MAKING NIGERIAN PUFF PUFF WITH FRESH PEPPER

My peppered puff puff making method is basically the same for almost all of the puff puff recipes posted here on the blog. The only difference most times is in the ingredients and measurements.

  1. Sieve the ingredients into a large bowl.
  2. Mix well with a spoon or egg whisk
  3. Add the warm water and mix again.
  4. Cover and leave undisturbed for about an hour.
  5. When it’s time to start frying in hot oil, keep the pepper beside the risen dough and sprinkle some on the dough just before scooping to fry. Do not empty the whole pepper in the dough. For every batch, sprinkle pepper and fry immediately.
  6. Deep fry till light brown or dark brown depending on how you like yours.
  7. Enjoy Nigerian peppered puff puff made using fresh pepper.

To make this puff puff with pepper, I used my hands to scoop and fry but if you don’t like getting hands messy while cooking. You can make round puff puff without using your hand. The recipe is on the blog already. There is also a sugar free puff puff recipe posted.
