Aunty Eya, I’m a regular in this life- saving blog; I’m so addicted that no day passes without a visit (although I’ve never left
  • any comment). Thank you for this great platform, luv u loads.
  • Now to the post…
Getting my 11-month old to eat can be tiring; however, she
enjoys taking pap, so I prepare soybeans powder at home to
mix with the pap together with milk in order to provide her with the necessary nutrients needed for a growing baby.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Soybeans (5 cups)
    Unripe plantain (2)
    Groundnuts- already fried (1 cup)
Note: you can add crayfish and cashew nuts too . HERE ISA RECENT VIDEO I POSTED ON YOUTUBE. YOU CAN WATCH AD FOLLOW THAT PROCEDURE OR USE THE ONE BELOW

    PREPARATION:

  1.   Select the soybeans to remove stone and dirt, wash and allow to dry.
  2. Peel the plantain, cut into flat chips and sun-dry. (I had to dry mine properly in a dry pot over fire).
  3. Pour the soybeans in a dry pot and fry; fry till the skin can be easily peeled off. Its brown and crispy just like fried groundnuts when done.
  4. Take to the mill for grinding (at the mill, it will be slightly processed to remove the skin/chaff ). Add the groundnuts and plantain to the clean soybeans and grind to powder.
  5. The soybeans powder is ready for your little one!.
  6. Store soya bean powder in an airtight container.

  1. wow! memories though. used to help my mum prepare the soya beans powder. but its not for babies alone, could recall then in junior sec, we do add it in our pap when having breakfast, very nutritious and contains much protein. Oly u didn't add crayfish and sugar.
    nice one dear.

    ~BONARIO~says so via NOKIA3310

  2. 9ce one! I make ds 4 my baby as well with crayfish and sugar. For first timers in d preparation process, u soak d soya beans in plenty of water after pickin out d dirts 4 three hours, then wash it out, place in a sieve to drain n sun dry it. Dryin d soya beans could take up to a week, dependin on d season( i.e rainy or dry season.

  3. Thanks so much for shareing this you made it alot easy. You can mesh ripe avacado or banana into the pap. Or you can peel apples boil it with little water and mesh either give like that or add to pap

    • Pediatricians say that honey under one year is not good because it can cause Infant botulism which is very dangerous. Please, research foods very well before giving them to your lil one.

    • Yes blessing, honey is not good 4 babies under 1year, cos their digestive system may not handle bacteria breakout in honey
Do a research, u wud get more info

  4. U̶̲̥̅̊'re welcome. I ddnt know about avacado and apples, tnx for the tips-oly

  5. Tnx bt I'm confused now, I wsnt adding sugar b4 until I heard dat babies need sugar @dis stage… Can somebody throw more light pls- Oly

  6. What I understand is that babies shouldn't take sugar or salt when they're little. The sugar might affect their taste for savory foods later & also d fear of sweeth tooth. Also, salt overworks dr little kidneys. What I do is add banana, apple, pear (mashed)to d food. Also, for food like mashed indomie, rice, pastas I just add titus or egg and it actually tastes nice without additional salt. But I think its applicable to kids under one, since from what paediatricians say,at that stage they can eat pretty much everything u make in d house ,though spices and seasoning shouldn't be too much. So if my toddler will eat with us,I scoop out hers' before putting all my orishirishi seasoning. Most babies I know likes mashed irish potatoes with milk added. U can also steam carrots a bit then blend and add milk. Hope this helps.

  7. Sugar is a no no for babies. I'll suggest you add sweet apples to sweeten it to replace d sugar. D more u give ur baby sweet stuff d more dey rely on it and will start refusing any food that hasn't got a sweet state. Moreover its not good for their development, gums, teeth and it can make them really hyper and agitated. A hyper n agitated baby frustrates his/her mother coz u'll end up getting double frustrated.

  8. A friend tot me ds but told me dt if its not properly fried,it can kill my baby…fear no gree me do am again, cos i dnt knw if i cn do it well cos ike ndi umunna ndi Adazi adiro m. I wl try it after delivery.thnks Oly

  9. Tips on what to feed your baby: sweet potatoes, carrots and any fish or meat of ur choice all cooked and mashed with a lil seasoning.

Butternut squash and rice all cooked n mashed then add d advocado.

Very little spinach, pasta and mince meat all cooked n mashed or blended with very little seasoning and butter.

For finger food ur baby can help him or herself to food u have cut into tiny sticks (chips size)like parboiled carrots, cucumber, chips, bread, bananas and apples. At 11months its time to start encouraging them to use their hands to put food in their mouth and to use their gum to chew semi soft food unaided.

  10. Plz don't 4get any soft swallow of ur choice with plain boiled okro add a little blended crayfish and deboned fish. Perfect for babies.

Weetabix or oats also very good for breakfast.

  11. Thanks 4 all this ideas.I'm sory to digress, please wats d best body cream 4a new born,my baby reacts to pears nd johnson baby cream.someone suggested dat I mix ORI nd Funbact A,is it ok?

    • Olive oil and petroleum jelly is d best!!
Use emollient to bathe ur baby.
The combination keeps babies skins hydrated

    • My dear, the best for babies(and kids) is pure 100 percent coconut oil(adiagbon). free from chemicals and all those things we do not know or cannot eat. keeping in mind that our skin in largest organ that absorbs into our body anything we put on it. make sure it is not adultrated. our babies deserve the best for our own sanity.

  12. Pls buy AVEENO shower gel and d body cream for ur baby! It works perfectly! It makes their complexion glow, and soft too! Its Number 1 peadiatric recommended in america! Try it,I'm talking out of experience.bt its a bit on d expensive side.

  13. Exactly wot i use 4 my baby ori n funbact. It's good esp. Ori 4 d skin n funbact 4 any stubborn rashes @ d neck n thigh region.
Or u cud rightly mix it, just as u were told.
    EIS

  14. U can also try sebamed baby body milk and soap. Its what my paediatrician recommended for my baby after series of skin rashes,it makes baby's skin soft and with no reaction at all. This funbacta cream,I don't think its good, cos it even tones adults' skin. And ori has a darkening effect.

  15. Booth product is a very good baby cream. Buy the whole product(cream, powder, oil and soap). Its very nice. All those funbat whitens adult talk more of kids and ori darkens the skin. The 2 mixed 2geda would be something else. Remember, babies need mild stuff on there skins and not something harsh

  16. I gave all my babies pure honey.Added in their meals. I added soya beans powder plus honey and palm oil to their ogi/akamu. The akamu was made with dawa or guinea corn, sometimes maize. Before stirring the akamu in cold water, add two or three drops of palm oil, stir well until the corn starch turns yellow.

After mixing with hot water, add a teaspoon or more of soybean powder and stir very well before adding honey. Sometimes, when babies refuse to eat, it's not because they hate food, the taste is the problem. Babies have their taste buds intact and they know tasteless food.

A little honey and watch babies clear their plates.I NEVER gave sugar but honey was a regular in my house. Not too much honey, but enough to give the food a nice taste.

Some cereals can be very tasteless. Adding just milk alone does not enhance the taste. It is best to enhance babies' food before giving them. If we cannot swallow tasteless food, what makes us think that babies can? Have a taste of your breastmilk and see that even nature added sweet taste to breast milk for babies to enjoy.
@Oly, this soybeans powder is very good. I used it too but without crayfish and other ingredients. The addition of these ingredients make it even richer.

The soybean must be roasted brown so that it doesn't purge the baby. For those who do not know when it is well roasted, continue to stir until you feel like it is beginning to burn, you see the skin breaking off from the bean, you see cracks on the beans, the skin trying to separate and fall off,. That way you know it's OK.
    Hope I made sense.Lol!

    • Aunty eya pls do i need to remove d back of d soya beans before grinding to powder

  17. A lot of sense ma! I ws thinking honey isn't good till d baby is 1. I read somewhere about its connection with one disease called botulism… Thanks again-Oly

  18. Botu what? My babies were very healthy. D only times we visited d hosp were for immunization and when one inserted a hair bead in her nose.

  19. Botulism! Oya ndi ocha…hv u heard of any Nigerian baby suffer d disease.its fr dem,not fr we nigerians.i started giving honey wen i stopped exclusive bfeeding n dt was wen she was 6 mnths

  20. My baby's food also has soyabeans powder in addition to g.nut, crayfish/driedfish, sorghum all roasted b4 takg 2mills. But d mixture has to be properly boiled b4 given to babies jst as if u r boilg pap. As per honey; u can google it; its nt safe for babies less dn 1yr; in my own case I was adding sugar to d meal bt vry minute @d initial stage buh nw ma baby tks it wtout sugar n she eats it a lot. Booth prdcts r gud

  24. Pls ladies, the isomil dat comes in tin like SMA is it d same as d soyabeans peach described how to make? Iphie

  25. Please don't give your baby under one year honey. It is not good for them. Pls ensure you make research before you give your baby any food. If you are not sure of the food's effect on your baby, then don't give them. Better safe than sorry!

  26. Yeah, boots is good. That's what I use on my baby.About the soybeans food,I know it,have done it and we are using it right away. Its tedious but rewarding cos I see how my baby has transformed.but I want to ask;is it only with pap that it can be taken? I use it on other cereals. Like cerelac and friso

  27. Think I will try this soybean but I will not put groundnut rather I'll use dry fish, crayfish and unripe plantain…. Thank u… Now should also add milk to the pap even after the soybean?

  28. In fact am amazed!! Thank God I found this site. I am in d process of making soy beans for my 6 months old. I have been discouraged by my mum but last week I went ahead to buy d beans cos I heard it s good for babies. Though I washed it first and have been drying it since Friday. Thank u for the plantain addition, am going off now to buy it!! Ijeoma

  29. I really appreciate this site. pls I want to know if I can add d soyabean powder to friso?

  30. Am not a mother.Infact,am a guy of 19yrs.But i have handled babies alot.Soyabeans is good for babies, though it can purge a baby when not prepared very well.Make sure the beans are fried very well before milling.I add fried groundnut, dried banana and unripe plantain, prawn or crayfish to the soyabean before milling it.Your little angel will change for the better(healthy looking and all)in just weeks of taking it.It is also good for grown ups cos it contains first class protein found in meat. But if it does make ur baby purge, pls discontinue.Every baby is not the same. Daniel.

  31. why washing the soya beans first and can a baby of 8 months take it an can you use egg to prepare pap for baby of 8 months

  32. please I want some clarification. I read that soya beans is not good for baby boysmen as it contains a hormone that affects their sperm.

  33. Pls, i am a first time mum and my two month old baby is yet to support his head unlike his other nephews nd nieces. Should i be worried?

  34. Pls,I'm a new Mum & I just heard of d Soyabean thing. Now I av mine peeled like d normal 'moinmoin' (no frying) with d intention of mixing it with d "dawa" & millet, crayfish, dried fish & groundnut.I hope it's ok?

  35. Just like Doofan nd odas re askin, can I add soyabeans to my baby's cereal like nutrient etc. Doryn

  36. Am eager to get pregnant cos of this site. S pls help. Am in love with ur ideas. Tanks so much.

  37. You all rock! Thanks for the soya beans powder preparation. Pls I also want to be cleared as per the sugar and the honey. My baby is just six months. Assumpta

  38. Hi, I heard that soya beans have many side effects if not prepared well, is it true? if it is true, what are they

  39. About the soya beans,do u wash to peel off d skin or jst wash cos of dirt.and hw long can u store it for. And how do u prepare it for ur child after d millin process

  40. Wow dis is great just stumbled on dis site, I'm also a first time mum although I don't like soybeans but d preparation sounds nutritious I think I'll try it 4 my 6 month old princess but can it be added to other cereals?

  41. worried about sugar and honey, which one is preferable cos I have a 7 month old baby boy and I give him little honey and sugar and soybeans mixed in pap, custard.

  42. i like this site, thanks mums, but can we get info on other locally prepared foods for babies and toddlers apart from soybeans

  43. Soya bean powder is good not only for baby but for adults as well. If u want to watch your weight you can add it to shakes and smoothies as protein powder.

  44. Yes! You can perboil for 5 to 10 minutes, to help remove the acid that can cause purging in both children and adult. Then peel, dry very well, and fry before milling. You can as well add other orishirishi of your choice. Goodluck!!!

  45. Aunty Eya, pls is the soyabean powder meant to be added to the ready made pap (just like milk) or cooked with the pap?

  46. Hi I just tried mixing soya with water and adding it to the pap mixture and then boiled d combination. I added his formula to it and he lived it as he lives d ordinary pap and formula. Thanks.

  47. Thanks, but at what stage do I add it to the pap, is it before or after making it?

  48. My soya bean was grinded and I realised it was too white. In conclusion, not well fried. Can I still re fry while it is in powdered form?

  49. I wash, & only cook my soyabeans very well lyk I cook beans, don't fry. Den afta I've dried & milled I cook wit de pap & don't add 2 de already cooked pap. I put in de flask 4 my baby's day ration. De only tin I added wen I want 2 feed ma baby's milk. But den, while washing, I see dat not all de bak go off. I dry dat way, & add de oda usuals; gnut, unripe plantain & crayfish, den mill. I was tot dat process whyl I was growing up by sm Rev., Sisters & we used 2 enjoy it den. We would even added ripe banana whyl drying & it would com out wit fyn flavour. I don't add de banana 4 ma baby tho., & Its cos realised dat banana wouldn't go well wit ma baby's systm each tym I ate it wyl I was breastfeeding xcluisively.

  50. Hello Eya Ayambem,
This post is really nice. God bless you all for your great ideas. Am a first time mother and have learn a lot. This is very informative. Thank you for sharing this.

  51. Hi mums. You all rock. Soy bean is great for your baby. My princess has been taking it since she was 5 months. Although a friend of mine has been preparing it for me, by I will be making it myself really soon. I add the soybean after the pap is made togeda with her milk. For her body, I use petroleum jelly with very little funbact, cos of some rash she once had. I realized that if I do not add the funbact, the rashes are likely to re-appear. I appreciate all your contributions, they are so helpful. Eby

  53. Pls ma I made a mistake of not frying thesoy beans before grinding, can I still take it?

  54. please fry it. Don't consume it like that. Since you've grinded it already, still fry it. Consuming it like that is like consuming raw beans. It's only when you want to make soya milk that you blend without frying

  55. It should not be taken raw at all. Maybe you throw it away and make another batch sorry. If you can still fry (roast) already ground beans, then go ahead sis.

  56. Please this soyabeans and plantain mixture, is it to be given with the paper or can be taken alone when mixed with warm water? Thanks
