How to peel beans with a blender or food processor

For my family and I, this is howto peel beans with a food blender or food processor.  A few years back, I resorted to buying from akara sellers because washing beans used to be hectic.

The way we washed beans back

then was by soaking in water and then scrubbing on a manual grater to peel the beans skin. I never used to make moi moi regularly because no one wanted to spend time washing beans in the kitchen.

Everything changed the moment we discovered that it takes just seconds to wash or peel beans skin for moi moi and akara.

The steps are just simple and doesn’t require any soaking of beans before washing.

HOW TO PEEL BEANS USING A BLENDER:

Here is how I wash my beans with a blender:

  • Rinse beans with clean water using a large bowl so that the dirt floating on top can be easily filtered out. This way even stones settle on the bottom of the bowl and can be easily removed.
  • Once the beans is rinsed with enough clean water, pour in a food blender and add some water.
  • Now all you need to do to peel the beans in the blender is to connect the blender to electricity and kind of press the button.
  • The aim is not to blend the beans so what you do is press  on and immediately press off. Quickly press on and off again for about three times and behold the skin is off and you can just rinse them out with a sieve or strain.
  • If your blenders came with a pulse button, use it. That will do a perfect job at quickly peeling the beans skin off.
  • Never let the blender run for even five seconds else your beans will get blended together with the skin.

HOW TO WASH BEANS WITH A FOOD PROCESSOR:

Now, here is how I wash my beans using a food processor:

  1. After picking out the dirt and stones, I place the clean beans in the food processor without water.
  2. Connect the food processor to a source of power  and quickly remove the beans skin by just briefly pressing on and off and on and off in quick succession.
  3. Never leave  your kitchen appliance running for long when you use them to wash off beans skin.  If the machine keeps running, just like the blender, it might just grind your beans with the skin all join.
  4. Let the food processor run for a brief second, open and check to see that the beans is separated from the skin.  If not okay, turn the appliance on again and check again until.you see that some beans are even broken and the peels are off.
  5. Finally, pour your beans in a bowl with much water to enable the skin float ontop
  6. .Feel free to rub the beans between your palms to peel.off any hidden one that may have escaped unpeeled from the machine.
  7. Filter out the chaff and use your skinless clean beans to make the best moi moi, akara or gbegiri without stress.
