How to cook turmeric rice

This is how to cook turmeric rice.

Turmeric rice is also known as yellow rice. The day I discovered the health benefits of eating turmeric was the day I started adding this nature’s gift to my cooking. Cooking turmeric rice is easy. It can be used in powder form like the ones sold at the market in airtight containers or as a root just grinded or blended and used.

I won’t encourage blending turmeric anyways because that nearly ruined my new blender. Colour changed completely but thank God we reversed it  almost immediately. Turmeric is a major ingredient in Nigerian fried rice. It gives the rice that bright yellow colour we love to see.

Turmeric has many uses, not only as food but also beauty treatment. Many organic body soaps and lotions have turmeric as one of their ingredients to help smoothen the skin and give it that natural glow.  To add to rice, it’s easy. Aside the nutrients from turmeric being added to the rice meal, it gives that irresistible colour to rice dishes. Turmeric is a natural, healthy food colouring that goes really well with rice. I add turmeric powder to all my fried rice recipes.

To cook turmeric rice isn’t different from your normal rice recipes. Just make sure you add turmeric powder to the boiling pot of white rice and it instantly changes the colour to yellow. The job of turmeric in your rice dishes is to give bright yellow color and nutrition. Doesn’t really add any taste.

Below is my method for how to cook turmeric rice.

HOW TO ADD TURMERIC TO RICE:

  1. Wash and boil the rice in a pot.
  2. Add turmeric powder to the pot of rice.
  3. Do not add too much. One teaspoon turmeric to 2 cups of rice is just fine. However, you may increase or reduce that quantity to suit your desired taste.
  4. Turmeric can be added to Nigerian fried rice, Nigerian palm oil rice and boiled white rice to give it a different colour.
