Is Shea Butter Good For Baby Skin?

Shea butter in a wooden bowl

Hello Eya. Is shea butter good for baby’s skin?

My able Wives Connection, please I need help. I had no problem with my first baby’s skin. My second is barely one month but developing rash already even with the
good “Boots baby Lotion” I apply on his skin daily. Someone advised me to drop the lotion that baby oil is better for his tender skin but I am thinking that oil is for the hair. Please I need advice ooo.

SHEA BUTTER FOR NIGERIAN BABY SKIN

My mum brought Palm kernel oil but
I can’t always use it cos of its smell. I read some time ago that Shea butter is very good for the skin.

Can it be applied to a newborn baby’s skin? I would like to know please.  Please I would like to know if anyone has tried it before. I hear it makes the skin turn darker but I don’t mind if only my baby’s skin will return to smooth and supple.

I need responses please cos the rash is making him uncomfortable and restless.
Thank you my able WC.REPLY:

SHEA BUTTER FOR BABY’S SKIN OK?

Hello poster. I used shea butter on my baby and it was great on his skin even though some parents have complained that it darkened their baby’s skin.

It is natural, there is nothing to fear. Organic shea butter is the best if you want to apply on baby’s skin. There are ways to know good shea butter from adulterated ones.

My boy used both shea butter and vaseline. His skin was very smooth. See his baby pic below. Please scroll down to see what other parents have to say about using  it on baby’s skin.

Numerous benefits of using shea butter on a baby’s skin

  • Shea butter has great benefits for a baby skin like smoothening.
  • Keeping the skin supple
  • Protection from cold
  • Toning the tender skin
  • When combined with other organic oils like coconut oil, palm kernel oil or  virgin olive oils, it has worked well on many babies.
  • It mixes well with other good organic oils and is easy to apply on the baby’s skin.

  5. Shea butter, kernel oil are very good for African babies n adult skin because they have not been processed with any chemicals the skin could react to and the rich natural oils they possess.
However, boots baby lotion n oil work best for caucacians because they are not produced for the African skin though some pple might be lucky to have a good result with them.

  7. That's the best cream u can use for babies at this stage, their skin hardly get dirty and shea butter blends well with d natural oily skin they have, they tend to react to perfumed creams , my first son also reacted to Johnson's and didn't bother making second son go thru d stress.

For d rashes babies develops them for different reasons, might be a reaction from cloths, diapers, heat ,even people carrying them with bare hands without shawls,

For my sons i used, and still use, shea butter and a tube cream called funbact A or skineal ,just mix the whole tube with like a big vasseline size plastic, and rub well together promise u it works like wonders .

I hope it works for ur baby and congratulations ,exclusive feeding o*wink*

It's better and cheaper than the boots baby lotion you use. My nephew and I use shea butter daily- It's good for the hair and nails as well. We are living testimonies to the benefits of shea butter. try it and u ll see results

  11. My baby reacted to baby cream and she has rashes, someone told me about shea butter (ori) and I have been using it mixed with skineal since birth, she's a year and 2months now, her skin is supple and glows, no single rash. I made coconut oil that I use for her hair and body as well. BTW, it enhances her skin colour, she's fair and it doesn't darken her skin.

  13. Pls pls & pls donn't use funbact a or skineal on ur baby, they are steriods and if u ever stop using them, it leaves d skin worse dan it met it. Also they make d skin difficult to heal, leaves permanent black spots and lines on the skin & bleaches d skin.

Yes it does have steroids but doctors prescribe cream with steroids for babies/children to treat skin defects and advice parents to stops once the skin is clear.
Poster I think shea butter can be used for babies, kids n adults. You might want to mix it with olive oil or something. I understand people even eat shea butter. A lady told me she melts it in d pan to cook and uses it as butter for her bread.

YES! you can use it on your baby, I use it on my 6weeks old son. Started off with palm kernel oil and just last week I switched to shear butter. Thanks to Mrs Morgan who told me I can still mix the palm kernel oil inside. Equal mixtures of shear butter, coconut oil and half of palm kernel oil will give your baby's skin the supple plus its natural, healthy and cheap. If you are conscious of the smell(which it really doesn't have), you can add few drops of essential oil

  22. Forget all those cream and shea butter stuff go to the hospital and they will give you an ointment to clear the rashes after that use a good Vaseline like Johnsons and you will never have another outbreak of rashes. I have been there so i know what am talking about. all these baby lotions are easy ways to introduce rashes

    Cheers

I used a mixture of shea butter n palm karnel oil for my girl till she was 11months and I have no records of skin issue. Don't bother about d smell, a good baby powder will cover the smell….pko softens d shear butter n makes it creamy, U can warmup d shear butter to make mixting easier

  27. I think moms should stay away from using Funbact A and steroids containing creams for babies except when prescribed by a paediatric doctor. Granted, they might work speedily but how about the side effects on a baby's skin. I think shea butter is good. The huggies shea butter baby wipes us good. Recently purchased unrefined shea butter to mix in body cream for baby and me. See how it goes

  28. Am a living witness to the wonders of shea butter… Shea is basically my body cream with a lesser quantity of honey mixed with it… Am brown skinned and shea is just it for any complexion… My mum tried my DIY cream and she is thinking of making shea butter her cream too.

People says it smells, well, I do not share that notion(maybe because am used to it). I would really advice you to go natural with your baby's cream… Just too many harmful chemicals in the store-bought creams.

Lest I forgot, stay away from Funbact-A and any tube at all, at least for your baby(even yourself should stay off). I have not tried any but most I have seen, the ingredients are not skin friendly at all. All the best

I need help cos baby still has red patches all over including her face and head.

Although there are fake ones in the market, Natural authentic shea butter is a moisturizer tha's good for the skin.Shea Butter has such a large healing fraction, in addition to moisturizing fraction, regular use of this natural cream can treat many skin problems, including blemishes, wrinkles, itching, sunburns, small skin wounds, eczema, skin allergies, insect bites, frost bite, and other skin conditions.
The great Egyptian Queen Nefertiti was said to owe her beauty to Shea butter.

In Nigeria, I think you can also get original shea butter from Yoruba women who sell in the markets. Many of those ones hawked about are adulterated.
