Twin babies with edited DNA may have had their intelligence boosted

Twin babies Lulu and Nana had their genes edited last year by a scientist. This was done while they were still embryo’s in the womb. The Chinese scientist who manipulated their DNA to make their genes resistant to HIV AIDS may have also succeeded in boosting the babies’ intelligence. Watch here.

The science world went into shock late last year when it was announced two baby girls had been born in China — after their DNA had been “edited”.

It’s an ethically incomprehensible act: we simply don’t know enough about the gene editing technique CRISPR or how DNA works to experiment on human children. There could be unanticipated side-effects.

It appears exactly that may have happened.

Some genes were taken out of the unborn babies then. To make them stronger and resistant to the deadly HIV but that may have other effects which were not the scientists intention. He may have just succeeded in making this kids more intelligent than normal.
