How I Preserve Cooked Rice For Weeks

HOW TO PRESERVE COOKED RICE

jollof rice preserved in the freezer for three weeks and warmed without defrosting.
For busy people who cannot cook except on weekends, do you know cooked rice can be preserved for as long as you want if left frozen? I stopped freezing cooked rice after trying once, defrosting before warming. The whole thing turned into pudding kind of, too soft and looking like overcooked rice or rice fufu.

This time I tried heating without defrosting first. It turned out great, still fresh and yummy. For me I prefer this to freshly cooked rice sef cos I really enjoyed the texture here. This jollof rice was served and no one knew it wasn't cooked at that moment. I haven't heated my frozen fried rice , palm oil rice and the boiled white rice, I pray they turn out fresh and yummy like the jollof.

Please do not

waste. Don't throe away your left over cooked rice, if there is no one to give, freeze.
Frozen jollof rice brought out of the bag for warming. the heat was turned on as soon as frozen rice is put in the pot. You can microwave.

TIPS FOR SERVING FROZEN COOKED RICE:

  • Freeze rice in bags. This was frozen in a large ziploc bag that I tore popen to get the iced rice out.
  • Do not store in plastic containers, you might have to break containers except you warm in a microwave.
  • Do not defrost before warming.
  • Warm only the quantity you need so you are not tempted to freeze again.  Heating then freezing again might not bring the desired poutcome
  • Leave frozen until needed
  • Add a very small quantity of water to botom of pot before heating to prevent pot burning before rice starts heating. I like burnt jollof rice anyway.

    1. Ewooooo, you could have said this without sounding like this na. Some men actually help in the kitchen and sometimes cook meals for their families. Some even boast of having better culinary skills than their wives.

    2. Aunty Eya, she said the plain truth nao. A man saying such will age his wife quickly. Imagine cooking stews everyday-going to the market and afterwards straight to the kitchen. No time to rest and refresh then later at night, he will expect her to "open door" for him to enter.
