Newborn baby gifts can range from baby items like clothing to baby bath items, baby feeding items, every day need items and many others. Giving gifts to newborn is not just a Nigerian thing. This is done all over the world. Newborn babies are welcomed with gifts from family and friends of the parents.
In Nigeria, visiting a family who just had a baby empty-handed is seen as a form of stinginess on the part of the visitor. Newborn babies are welcome with lovely gifts regardless of whatever parents may have shopped while pregnant. Shopping for a newborn baby is sweet whether one is the parent of that baby or just a friend of the baby’s parents.
VISIT NEWBORN BABIES WITH A GIFT ITEM:
However rich new parents may be, it is advisable to go visit the new baby with something for the baby. Because of the confusion on what to give to a baby, some people just go with money in an envelope for the baby and that’s ok but getting something, an item for this lovely baby will be more memorable.
Try not to get a baby just anything, it may not be used on that baby. A gift for a newborn should be something babies need. An item that cannot be ignored or given away to another family.
For me, when I give baby items to new moms, I am very intentional. I don’t to give gifts that will be given away because they are not needed. Parents love to shop newborn baby items more than is needed. A lot of mothers, especially first time moms, have this habit of shopping every beautiful baby items they see.
SHOP ITEMS THAT WILL BE NEEDED LATER, NOT IMMEDIATELY:
What you want to gift is baby clothing? Don’t go for items the baby will soon outgrow! Be intentional about it. Some babies are born big, some grow faster than their age mates.
After the baby is born, they realize that not many of those items are needed. When I shop gift items for new parents or babies, I go for baby clothing that won’t be needed immediately. I like to get baby shoe, or baby dress for 6 month to year old baby. That way, the items are not needed immediately but will come in handy when baby begins to out grow the stocked items.
Only experienced moms know how to shop baby items for different growth stages of the baby. If you want your gift to be used on the newborn, shop items that will be needed later, not immediately. There are inexpensive baby items that look durable and beautiful. It doesn’t have to be branded. Most parents who love to shop branded baby items also do make use of unbranded items that are lovely and cute. Choose gift items for newborn wisely.
I would have said not to bother with items like baby bath tub but please feel free to buy a bathtub if you find a lovely one because some house-helps are good at ‘accidentally’ breaking baby bath when scolded. In that case, your gift item comes in handy and even if it doesn’t, the next baby on-line will enjoy it.

Even if a parent receives a whole room full or trailer load of diapers, they are never enough. More so, Washing is done daily when a baby arrives any family. That’s why detergents are very much-needed. A carton of ariel detergent, klin detergent, omo, sunlight detergent or any mild baby detergent will be received with joy. Going further, If you give birth to a baby in Nigeria, you’ll realize that numbers fifteen to 20 can never be tossed aside because if they are not needed in the first week of delivery or first month of baby’s life, they’ll be needed soon.
