Trying To Conceive, Who Has Done HSG Before? Any Tips Please

Good day Aunty Eya, trust God you are doing well. I have a question for the
house, please help me post this as anonymous. Am trusting God for the fruit
of the womb and I thought I should go for HSG cos its been awhile we've
been trying. My question is has anyone done HSG before? What was the
success rate? How painful is the procedure? Any known side effect? I want
to get all the information from the house before going for it. God bless
you.

HSG is a test to see if your fallopian tubes are blocked. I did it recently it cost about 30k and its extremely painful. Please note that I have a high threshold for pain and this was very painful. Luckily for me my result said i had no blockage i was really scared because the most common way to fix blockage is through surgery and i did not like the idea of that. Good luck

I am a radiographer. Iv attended to many HSg patients. It depends on ur pain threshold...few ppl have made no complaint abt pain while a lot had cried n all dat...
Firstly, I'd advise u to b very calm n think of d benefits.
HSG is a diagnostic radiological procedure used to view ur uterine cavity n to know d patency of ur fallopian tubes. It is used to assess d size of uterine fibroids...to know also causes of infertility.
It is also therapeutic in d sense dat it helps open up d tubes if they v been initially blocked. I usually advise my patients to av sex after d procedure...and there's has been a lot of testimonies of conception after its been done.
Pls b very calm abt it o n dnt b tensed wen its being done cause it can give a false diagnosis of ur tubes cause due to ur tension, the tubes may appear abnormal...
Some instruments will b inserted into ur vagina...then a dye(contrast) will b injected thru ur cervix to ur uterine cavity n tubes to outline them...wen d injection is bein done, u'l feel pain especially if ur tubes r blocked... Then u'l b positioned differently to take pictures.
    I wish u all d best..
    U'l testisfy IJN.
Most importantly pls b calm....n its not all dat painful...jst like mosquito bite(*smile*)
BTW, if any discharge is seen,it most likely wnt b done so infection will not b ppushed into d womb, also if u r still bleedin from ur period, it also wnt b done.
D radiation is not too much for u, so no cause for alarm abt it....njoy...

I had hsg while trying to conceive three years after the birth of my first child. Initially I was reluctant, cos I felt surely my tubes couldn't have gotten blocked after the birth of my first child. The procedure itself was not painful to me, but I reacted afterwards with vomiting and abdominal pain. Guess what I took in the very next month. I was so surprised. It was like the procedure flushed out whatever may have been in my tubes and system. I still thank God to this day.

Go for the procedure, it won't do you any harm only good.

  5. I think you should see a gynecologist first so he/she can refer you.Don't treat or diagnose blindly. I almost went to do it on my own but my friend suggested seeing a doctor first. And I took in without it at the end of the day. Just have faith and be positive.

    1. Hi, I did mine for the 1st time 3weeks ago and researched online and saw all sorts of stories about it being painful, some compared it to labour pain infact so I was friggin scared!!! To the glory of God the place I had it done the radiographer promised it won't hurt and most times depends on the person doing it for you.. Lo n behold! To the glory of God it didn't hurt and I don't know how much my hubby paid but I doubt it's even upo to 10k. If u r in lagos go to Funbell diagnostic centre 88, akowonjo road baale b/stop egbeda, Lagos, they also have a centre in ibadan, duraclean building 63,mko abiola way dikkat b/stop ringroad ibadan, I can't guarantee that their radiographer in ibadan is as skilled as the one in egbeda where I had mine done... I was soo glad it didn't hurt after all the horror stories I had heard, I could almost jump and hug the guy after lool.. then again it could depend on the patient I dunno, just pray take ibuprofen about 30minutes before u do it even tho I ook noffin infact the paracetamol injection I took just before it hurt my bum more than the hsg procedure itself. best wishes hun...

    3. I stay in Abia State. And did it at a diagnostic center. I think they're cheaper than hospitals though you should research and make sure the person doing it is experienced

Hmm.....hsg I've done it twice in my life and I thank God I have results. D first one was when I was newly married and ttc (trying to conceive). I had my 3kids in quick succession. Then after the 3rd I wanted a 4th to round up so went for it again. That was when I discovered my right tube is blocked n it's only my left working. So after intercourse I slept on my left side and lo and behold it worked!! So my sister just be strong and go to a happy place in ur mind cos apart from the discomfort, it's not easy opening ur legs to a stranger. But I think it's a good way to go if uve bn ttc for a while. Also work with ur gynecologist. Like someone said u might not need it after all. Good luck and God bless.

HSG LIKE ALL OTHER PROCEDURES FOR CONCEPTION TAKES A LOT OF PROFESSIONALISM AND EXPERIENCE....ACTUALLY WHERE I SERVE, THERE ARE CRITERIA WE USE.......FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FIBROID AND THOSE WHO DO NOT AND WE CONSIDER THE TYPE OF CHEMICAL USED TOO......UROGRAFIN IS ALMOST OUTDATED AND HURTS WHILE IOPAMIDOL WHICH IS USED FOR PATIENTS DO NOT HURT..........

    Hello everyone.
I have been silently following this thread since my decision to go for a hsg procedure. I had my hsg done today at pix centre, phc and contrary to all the scary stories I have heard or read on the internet, all i had was a mild cramp for about 8mins. It helped chatting with the doctor and technician during the procedure as i was bracing myself for the imaginary pain. It was funny after some minutes the doctor said "It's over. How're you feeling?". I was taken into a recovery room even when there was no need and 10mins later I got my results and i was on my way. Ladies in the house, I think the pain is dependent on the severity of your case and threshold for pain. Hoping to start BD from tomorrow. I wish everyone TTC baby dust. 2016 will surely be our year. Thanks.

  20. I did the test as well. Its not so painful. Just a bad menstral cramp.

If it is recommended by your gynecologist just bite the bullet and do the needful. If you are TTC I think its worth it to play your part & let God do his. It cost me 13k. I did mine on my day 10 @ Union Diagnostics Ikorodu.
