RE: Define The Role Of The Man And Woman In The Household

A very interesting article.  Diverse opinions with their own inherent logic and justifications, which generate more curiosity and interest to further examine and probe into the subject matter.

I will like to refer to Genesis 3:16and 1 Timothy 6:10. Reading that article along side reflections on these two Bible verses, reinforces my fears, concerns and suspicions that a misinterpretation of modernity, technology and that which is deemed to be trendy and fashionable, continues to conspire in corrupting the mind of women to depart from biblical prescriptions.  This causes conflicts, suspicions and doubts within households in particular, and society in general.

Genesis 3:16 adequately and affirmatively defines the role of the man and woman in the household, while 1Timothy 6:10 has predicted the evil inherent in money.  Mutual love, trust and confidence in one another should be the platform and foundation of marital bondage and not the lust and longing of what is in the purse, pocket or the

bank of either husband or wife.  Such lust and longing can generate suspicion, doubt and possible conflict which amounts to the evil which is referenced in 1Timothy 6:10.

Having undertaken the vows of marriage in accordance with biblical terms, it is immaterial and insignificant for spouses to concern themselves as to what is in the others account, or what the other earns.  Which is not to say that either of the spouse is not at liberty to disclose such information to the other if he or she so pleases.  What is of cardinal importance is for the family and household to be provided with all that is necessary to make a happy home, and the husband and wife have their respective roles to play in this as biblically prescribed.

I hope you will find this a useful contribution to knowledge on the subject matter to share with your followers on your blog.

Good morning!

I read the Genesis scripture...I rily dnt think d curse should be used to define the roles of man of woman. There are several scriptures all around the bible that do justice to that. However, you made very good points. Well said.

Madam ahdaisy, the Bible, the Holy
Nook of God has defined something in one aspect, and you say "YOU" don't think its good enough? Who are you to add or subtract or disregard what wat written in the Bible? And since u now claim to be smarter than the one who wrote those words in d Bible, why haven't u written ur own Bible yet? In everything we do, pls let's ask the Holy
Spirit for wisdom. Especially wisdom to learn how to speak aright in such a sinful world, as this case pertains to you.

    3. Agatha, biko kwa, dnt annoy me this happy saturday evening I beg you. Wush one come be all this one U dey talk? If U have an issue with what I said, address it and dnt start asking me stupid questions or twisting what I said or implying what I did not imply biko kwa... I rarely get angry like this but ur comment is more than an insult to me. I dnt like it. *Takes a deep breath...anger gone*

Did you even read the scripture? Lemme paste it here and add more...incase...

16  Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. note

       17  And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18  Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; note

19  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Does that adequately define the roles of the husband and wife in the home? Are we still under the curse? Why then did Jesus die for us? That scripture just showed us where man and woman were caused because of sin. It is not there to show us what the duties of a man or woman in the home are. Did you see me add or remove from the scripture? The bible says 'study to shew thyself approved'. You dnt just take one scripture and use it to explain something so deep and dynamic. Is childbearing the only role of the woman in the house? Who then is the virtuous woman? A drag queen?

Pls, there are so many scriptures in the bible especially in the new testament which show the roles of man and woman in the home adequately. Pls look for them.

1st Tim 5:8  But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Eph 5 is one of them...1st Peter 3 is one of them... They are so many. So pls read my first comment again and see whether ur own is justified. I did not disregard the scripture, I only said it should not be used for this topic.

Thank you and God bless you.

    4. I believe what d writer means by role is responsibilities of each party in d marriage... Who does what and who provides what..

All these other verses u quote talks about how power is shared in d marriage, as in, what will keep d marriage together .I.e. Love and submission on d part of the woman..

The poster is trying to say d man is responsible for providing for the family while d woman takes care of kids and from your point, (submission) you are trying to say, d woman should submit everything she has to her husband, even her money since its part of submission wether u trust him or not as long as u have sign d dotted lines and u have agreed he is your husband..

But then d writer says we should focus on Mutual love, trust and confidence in one another and it should be the platform and foundation of marital bondage and not the lust and longing of what is in the purse, pocket or the bank of either husband or wife. Such lust and
longing can generate suspicion, doubt and
possible conflict which amounts to the evil which
      is referenced in 1Timothy 6:10.

Well, my own b say, let everyone run their home as they best understand from the bible.. There are homes where d husband doesn't give a damn abt what d wife has in her acct and there are some where d husband believes he needs some help as per income from the wife to sustain the home.. Recognise d one u belong to and manage your home.. Never compare your marriage to another persons marriage or your home to anothers..Ese pupo

    5. And one more thing, the curse still stands..all men still return to the soil where they all came from and only christians who have accepted christ have hope of eternity life after the physical death

All women still go into pains and labour to have a child..

    6. Doyin, I understood what the poster meant very well. And in the scriptures I wrote, in some verses you'll see those duties clearly stated. However, I still believe that scripture esp the Genesis 3:16, isnt the best scripture to use for that point. The scripture does not say 'now because Eve has sinned, she will now be the one to give birth.' So it is not a duty of the wife in the home. Even unmarried ladies can get pregnant....and have painful delivery.

Neither does it mean that the ground was cursed for man only. The same thing applies to a woman. The ground does not suddenly become good when it's a woman involved. Eve's curse was to women, Adam's curse was to mankind(women inclusive). So that scripture was just not it for this topic. That's why Agatha's comment stunned me.

Now, even taking care of children especially their training is not for women only. In the bible on several occasions, fathers were punished or queried by God for their children's misbehavior. Not the mother. See Eli... Also see Eph 6:4

4  And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Now to the curse... Once you are in Christ, the curse is broken. Even before Christ, after the flood and Noah's sacrifice, God reversed the curse on the ground and established new covenants with mankind. See Genesis 8&9.

Women do not have to go into labour. Jesus said it is finished on the cross and he took away all our infirmities, sicknesses and pains. Jesus defeated death by being raised on the third day and the power of life and death and all authority on earth and in heaven was given unto Him and in His name we have that same authority and if we decree a thing, it will be established unto us. So if exercise faith and confess positively, supernatural birth is your portion.

You also do not have to die physically...but that is another higher rhema for another day. Lol

Aunty eya, u for do research before u post this one na! Aba!

Living under the curse is way out of it!
Did u read timothy very well! It has nothing to do with a wife and husband transparency in marriage towards their finance!
This post is so out of it... Abeg

You don't pick a verse from the bible and dwell on it, you study the bible...
When you see a sentence that attracts you, read everything about that chapter, if possible a chapter before and u'll have a full understanding of it. And again use different translation of the bible, to gain full knowledge or clearer understanding.. Kpele

@Agatha ur response to Ahdaisy is so off point. Where did she claim that the scripture isnt good enough? How did she imply that she is smarter than the authors of the bible? All she said was the verse given by the poster doesnt do justice to the points discussed, which (for once) i agree with her. Did u read the comment at all? I think u should use the advise u gave to her; "speak aright with wisdom". U need it more than she does in this instance.

As for this post, it is just a show off of big words with no real message within. In a sentence, u mean that women are to be ruled by men, according to d scripture u gave. I advise that u read ur bible. Understand d reason why Christ came and the meaning of 'redemption' through his death. Understand that through him, we are free from curses n forgiven for the sins of Adam and Eve who were the reason for the curse in that scripture. Then pls read the rest of ur bible and find more appropriate words concerning husbands n wives. There are quite a number. Ultimately u are entitled to ur own opinion though, this is mine.

  8. Transparency with finances is very important in marriages these days. Times have actually changed. In the past, yes the woman's role was relegated to just cooking meals and feeding the children. Now it's different. Over two thousand years ago when that Bible passage was written, There was no organized banking system like is obtained now and no Expensive formal Education for children.

It is very important for couples to let each other into their financial secrets cos we never know. God forbid anything happens to me while on air or at sea. What happens to my family? My wife is my next of kin, however, I don't see Nigerian banks coming to inform a next of kin of deposits with them unless she goes there herself to make enquiries. No Naija bank will come to any wife or husband to say "we want to inform you that your spouse has some money in our bank and you have a right to that money." The money will rather become one manager or Director's.

A man or woman that truly loves his/her family won't keep their spouse in the dark concerning their finances, like I always say, we never know. Anything can happen.
