He Finds It Difficult To Sleep Due To Breathing Problems

Hi Aunty Eya, good evening. My kid brother finds it difficult to breathe at night and during the day, this has resulted to him opening his mouth all the time plus he finds it difficult to sleep at night due to this problem.

Please kindly help me ask
fellow wives connection readers for advice on what to do or maybe any nose equipment that can help ease his breathing cos while sleeping at night sometimes, whitish foam comes out of his mouth with severe snoring.

  1. From your post I deduced your brother maybe suffering from bronchitis or mild asthma.
But I'll advice you see the doctor for proper clarification.

Bona a beg na. Ah ah. This one is adenoids. Very common with kids. May or may not require surgery.

Poster please take your brother to a teaching hospital to see a pead. My daughter suffers from something similar but I was told it was minor. That she will overgrow it. Someone else had surgery for it. So... Go see a specialist.

  2. Most likely he has wat is cald Adenoid enlargement. An adenoid is a lymphoid tissue that is located in the nasopharynx. When it gets enlarged, it obstructs d airway thus px breaths thru the mouth(opens the mouth evritime), snores, restless during slip becos of reduced oxygen perfusion. Treatment of this condition is adenoidectomy which is surgical removal of the adenoid bt in some cases it regresses before the age of 5 bt surgery is d definitive treatment. Cheers

Don't know hw old ur brother is,bt my little sister once had d same problem. She was taken to d hospital and according to the doctor, nothing was wrong. She however outgrew it,she's 13 now and sleeps fine, she no longer opens her mouth to breath and she doesn't snore while sleeping. I think he should be taken to see a doctor and he might also outgrow it.bt he should see a doctor first.

  4. Poster I think your brother needs to see a doctor or specialist for proper diagnosis and treatment as proper examination, observation and tests will need to be carried out.

I've watched something similar to what u have described on TV called 'embarassing bodies'. It is a condition called 'sleep apnea' this is when people snore very bad and have disturbed sleep as they loose consciousness on and off when sleeping. They give them an oxygen mask to use whenever they sleep day or night so it helps them stay alive or they can stop breathing and die without oxygen when they sleep.
