HOW MY HUSBAND RUINED VALENTINE’S DAY

Valentine
My daughter saved valentine. She’s my new valentine. She tried her best to get me some munchies to make me happy.

My valentine’s day has always been ruined or most of the times if not always. Yesterday wasn’t any different. Social Media didn’t help matters at all. I waited and waited and waited to hear or see something from hubby… Not the way Kanye West mesmerized Kim Kardashian with flowers and special performances but just in our own little way of doing something like: Let me just surprise my wife with a sweet message or even ordinary post of “Happy Valentine’s Day my darling wife”

I saw nothing. When it was clear the day was going to pass like that. I decided to take charge and help myself by sending my husband a message that I’m still expectant as Valentine continues till 12 midnight. There was no response.

I saw a lovely post on Facebook where Johnson wished his lovely wife a happy valentine’s day. Keyed my faith into it, commented and tagged my husband (I’m quite sure he saw it, even though he won’t say). After about an hour of tagging and getting no response. I put a call through and heard him laughing from the other side.

He couldn’t even pretend to be serious just to sound believable. He was just laughing and telling ,me that he hasn’t seen any of my messages o. That he’s at work and can’t go on Facebook till after close of work. That really pissed me off and I didn’t wait for him to end the call sef. His laughter even confirms that he still doesn’t take it seriously at all.

Like he is laughing at me for being childish or something.

All I wanted was just anything to make the day feel special yet as usual nothing happened. I wish I can just forget about it and just know ahead of time each year so my mind can be fine tuned but I’m so childish I keep hoping even when nothing changes.

Thank God nobody heard when he drove in. The next thing was that the room door opened and e heard a man’s voice singing something like… ‘

where are my valentines oooo, I’m home…

where are my valentines ooo?

Where are my valentines…?

The song wasn’t even funny. Even the kids didn’t laugh and I was so happy when my second daughter asked…. “Daddy what did you and mummy do for each other this valentine? He answered ‘NOTHING!’

She asked again.. “What did you do for mummy?

He just smiled and I didn’t wait to hear anything before leaving the room for them. I don’t like what I don’t like abeg.

IS IT THAT DIFFICULT?

“How is it hard for a husband to realize that even though this thing means nothing to me, for the fact that my wife likes it, I need to respond and make her happy” Is it when I’m a grandma that my husband will start spoiling me on Valentine’s day? I’m no longer looking forward to it anyway. It’s one of my crosses to bear maybe.

I’m not asking for anything expensive or out of this world. I’m not even asking for anything monetary. Just some sweet gesture, something different and romantic. That’s all, yet NOTHING.

In my family, valentine is treated like every other day. The routine is the same.

In the past, I used to try my best until I got tired and stopped doing the one sided romantic gestures. I used to really really make special days special but stopped after advising myself to wait and let others spoil me too.

I am still waiting to be spoilt. It’s well.

If only I can advise myself to erase all these things from my mind, but I can’t because THAT is who I am. I value little gestures but my husband… even his birthday sometimes he doesn’t remember and everything just means nothing to him. He never sees any day as special. Never feels like any day should be treated differently. What kind of life is that?

MY REVENGE:

This time, I won’t let it just go like that. My revenge is about to explode. It was supposed to be a burnt offering dinner yesterday for him, but I postponed it to this morning. The burn’t offering dinner won’t work because he doesn’t even eat normal dinner ( No carbs in his dinner) How do you burn the soup of someone that doesn’t eat carb dinner?

Planned on burning his toast this morning but couldn’t because he let’s no one toast for him. Makes his toast the way he likes it. In the evening, I am going to serve him fish pepper soup and still thinking that since pepper soup can’t be burned, I’ll salt it like we own a salt mine. After my sweet revenge, I might feel better and continue as usual.

Revenge is even hard these days with my older kids around. If I refuse to peel his dinner fruit or serve his fish, he just calls on one of them to do it and looks at me like ” See yourself?” Like “Haven’t I won yet again”?

If your husband remembers special days. Please treat him well. Don’t take that for granted… It’s a privilege most of us crave for and are ready to do anything, anything to make hubby just cook and serve  special breakfast in bed for us on those special days.

Your wife likes some things that mean nothing to you, try your best to just make her happy and move on with your life. It won’t hurt  at all. After all we women sacrifice the TV remote all the time even though we don’t really want to watch those Football matches and CNN with  you.

will try and stop looking forward to Valentine’s Day, and just mind my business…

  1. Ewww aunty Eya, I feel you. I believe hubby does not know your love language yet. Please call him and explain the things that are really important to you, you can start by sharing this post with him. Also don.t stop the romantic gestures, he will retaliate too.
    Hugs
