HOW TO BAKE CAKE IN A PRESSURE COOKER

How to bake cake in a pressure cooker

To bake a cake in a pressure cooker, you need to take off the gasket and whistle from the pressure pot.
You don’t want your cooker to burst from the pressure.  You also need something to insulate as I did here. The lid will still click lock without the gasket and whistle.

I baked this cake to save gas. I have shared recipes of cakes baked on the stovetop before, this is not the first time. The size of the cake is so small that I felt using an oven will just consume too much gas for something this tiny.

On the burner, it’s like cooking any other meal. This cake turned out really good. I don’t know if it’s the pressure cooker or the small burner I used that gave such a perfect cake, we all love it.

All I needed to produce this was a few ingredients, some salt at the bottom to keep the pressure cooker insulated, some clean stones on the salt to enable heat go round the baking pan evenly without burning my cake.

That’s all. It has already been cut in pieces and kept in the fridge. School Lunch box snacks waiting…

Poured in a round baking pan

Salt covering the bottom of my pressure cooker.

Pre-heating the pressure pot  with salt for 5 minutes. My stove is not very hot. If your burners are fiery hot, then 2 to 3 minutes pre-heating should be fine.

Placing clean stones on the salt

Placing the baking pan on the stones.

Cake baked at exactly 45 minutes. See the bottom of the pot? Still clean.

INGREDIENTS:

Ingredients to bake cake in a pressure cooker. You can use any ingredients from other cake recipes.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar or a bit less to reduce the sweetness.
About 1 cup butter (250 grams) I used 1 sachet simas
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon banana essence
1/2 teaspoon strawberry essence

DIRECTION TO BAKE CAKE IN A PRESSURE COOKER:

  1. Remember to take off the gasket and whistle.
  2. Cover the bottom of the pot with some salt.
  3. Put the lid on and heat the pot for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the lid. Place stones on the salt.
  5. Place the baking pan on the stones.
  6. Put the lid back on and bake for 45 minutes or till a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

DIRECTION FOR THE CAKE BATTER PREPARATION:

  1. Add all ingredients in a bowl starting with the flour, then sugar, butter, eggs, and end with flavoring. Mix… I mixed with a wooden spatula for 5 minutes, that’s all.
  2. Pour into a greased baking pan and put in the already prepared, heated pressure cooker.
  3. Bake till brown. This cake baked in 45 minutes, that’s a long time because my stove burners are not very strong.  If your stove is very hot, then baking might take a shorter time.
  4. Remove cake from the pot and leave to cool in the baking pan for 10 minutes.
  5. Now remove from baking pan and cool completely in a wire rack.
  6. Cut and enjoy your delicious cake.

That’s how to bake cake in a pressure cooker.
