Heat rash ravaging my baby’s skin

Please mothers I need urgent advice on how to treat this rash ravaging my baby’s skin especially on my son’s neck. My son had serious cold and catarrh…I was always covering him up and locking and rubbing baby mentholatum all over his chest…only for me to notice these rashes last week. Please help. Thanks.

HOW TO CARE FOR HEAT RASH ON BABY SKIN IN NIGERIA

Hello dear mum. The weather in Nigeria ia very hot these days. The hot weather can cause rash on baby skin especially if the baby is always covered and air cannot penetrate his skin. Please, first of all, I’ll advise that you see a medical Doctor. Take the baby to see a pediatrician at the hospital. They have medications for this rash.

Secondly, keep the room well ventilated to help your baby skin not feel hot and sweaty all the time. Let air into the house let the baby’s skin breathe some fresh air.

Thirdly, stop applying creams and lotions. They make the skin sweat. For my babies, what helps to keep the rash area dry is calamine lotion. After bathing the baby, we rub the white calamine lotion all over the baby skin. Calamine lotion helps to keep their skin cool in this hot weather. Also stop applying metholatum on your baby’s chest. Get the cold treated with catarrh medications and keep the mentholatum away. It’s hot for baby’s tender young, beautiful skin.

The last thing I’ll advise you do is use mild baby soaps on the baby skin. Avoid the use of medicated soaps on the baby’s skin. Even antiseptic soaps should not be used on a baby’s skin except prescribed by a pediatrician. Wash your baby daily and gently. Use baby’s soft sponge or just rub the soap on your palms and gently clean your baby’s skin without scrubbing the rash area. Good talcum powders also help to relieve the effect of rash on the baby’s skin.

Other mothers have some tips to share with you. Please check the comments below and we wish your lovely baby a quick recovery. Don’t worry, he’ll be fine very soon. The rains will soon be here too.

  1. Please use coconut oil. it works magic for heat rashes. If you cant get the original, please try and extract it yourself. Its simple to make. Pls refrain from using chemicals such as Baby Tribotan etc.

  2. Baby Tribotan is the best cream you can use. It works well like magic. I used it for my baby and the rashes disappeared in two days.

  3. The weather is hot lately , so expect such. Am a mother of four and two with sensitive skin. If you continue using cream, when u stop, it reappear again. My advice is calamine lotion , it dried it up and stopped the itching. She is too young to be exposed to whitefield etc. focus on natural oil like coconut or palm kernel oil.

  5. Coconut oil is good. I use it everyday to prevent rashes. But when my little daughter had nappy rashes, a friend introduced Baby Tribotan to me and I tried it. It worked well and the rashes was cleared within few days. I think it is very effective and safe for treatment of rashes on a baby while coconut oil is good for everyday prevention.
