How To Care For Baby Skin In Nigeria. I need help oh

How do I care for my newborn baby skin in Nigeria?
Hello fellow moms, I was advised to get aveeno if I want the best skin for my newborn.

Now, Aunty Eya, it’s like her skin was better when I used black local palm kernel oil which I dropped cuz I don’t like the smell.
There is so much rash on my baby’s bum, armpits and on the neck and I seriously suspect the new cream. Can I mix shea butter to baby oil?
Please this is my first baby, am still an amateur mom. I need tips on how to care for my baby’s skin in Nigeria. Thank you.

HOW TO CARE FOR BABY SKIN RASH IN NIGERIA:

To care for baby skin rash, there some things to take note of.

First try to find out the cause of the skin rash. Many factors can cause baby skin rash;

Bathe water with wrong temperature

Over covering of the baby.

Baby skin care products used on your baby’s sweet skin

Reaction to certain medications

When a baby develops a skin rash, it could be one of the reasons above. Check that

the bathe water is not hot. Baby skin is too tender for hot water. Bathe your baby with warm water not hot. Hot bathing water can cause baby skin rash.

SKIN CARE PRODUCTS:

Just changing the skin care products li

ke talcum powder, baby soap, baby lotion and baby oil has helped many heal quickly. Your baby could be reacting to some chemicals in his skin care products. They may be too harsh or not just good for that skin type. Check with your Doctor though.

CLOTHING:

Fear of a cold has made many a mum over cover the baby’s young skin to the extent the skin cannot breathe anymore. Do not over cover and always check to ensure that your new baby’s skin isn’t sweating under those heavy baby sweaters and shawls. The wraps can be taken off if the room temperature is hot. baby’s skin needs oxygen too. They need to be properly covered but not too much. Check that you are not covering the baby too much.

MEDICATIONS: can cause baby skin rash

Is your baby on any time of medications at the time? The skin rash could be a reaction to the drugs and you need to go back to the Doctor to check if that’s the cause of the rash. It could be a side effect to the drug that’s causing your baby a skin rash.

Aside these ones, there are still o

other reasons that can cause a baby skin rash in Nigeria. Our weather here is hot all year round. Heat can cause skin rash on a baby skin. The heat in Nigeria, especially around March, is enough to make baby develop skin rash.

HOW TO CARE:

See the Doctor

Use talcum powder to soothe. Like mild dusting powder.

Use some of the baby products suggested in the comment section.

Wear light cotton clothing on baby not polyester. Do not dress baby on tight clothing.

Air the room and keep it well ventilated. If your baby is restless and unable to sleep, be sure that the temperature is ok, clothing not hot and they are not sweating.

To check for sweat on your baby, check his neck, back and forehead. If any of those body parts is moist or wet, just know your baby is suffering.

When you go to the hospital, you’ll be given medications to take care of the skin rash

  1. I also experienced such when i had my baby, my MIL made a cream for her containg shea butter, coconut oil, & olive oil but because of my JJC i kept it aside wanting to do oyimbo style i used johnsons,in less than a week after birth she started developing rashes.
I would advice to only stick to natural oils when it comes to baby skin. Switch back to d palm kernel oil or better still shear butter which is odourless. Keep the aveeno until shes's older.

  2. It could be an allergic reaction to the cream, but it could also be a skin infection (likely fungal). Pls take your baby to a dermatologist for evaluation.

  5. When you have a baby one of the creams you need to buy is Psuedo cream. Many babies develop rashes even after using shea butter and natural oils but with the psuedo cream, these rashes stay at bay. Before wearing your baby her diaper, use the psuedo cream on her bum and use it on her neck too for the rashes. Thank me later.

  10. Poster, great comments here for you. May I also add that Sheabutter and Unscented Vaseline is great on babies' skin. Palm kernel oil too is good for difficult to find in cities. Mums swear by coconut oil even though I haven't tried it.

  11. If you notice dark eye circles on your baby, then know the cream or soap is too harsh and change immediately. The baby's skin may not lighten but check dark eye circles… for mums who use some kind creams to lighten… Lol.
