How Do You Wear It Better?

How Do You Wear It Better?
This is me, after my baby’s dedication and Reception back home in December.

This is from my Facebook photos and I know some of us have seen it. I didn’t share his dedication pics here in December because connection at the village was poor and uploading pics took too long. So, my sister says combining white with yellow is not great. She thinks that because we were dedicating a baby boy, white and blue would have been perfect. I disagree and for me, any colour or dress is perfect if it looks good on you.

After the child dedication service, hungry, tired, and sweating, I’m still a wrapper-tying learner. Would have done two wrapper if I could. lolz

I am not particular with colours, I go with what I find that’s why sometimes I arrive late because I never pick out a dress ahead of time. I don’t know if there is anyone else like that. I wait until it’s time to go, then then begin to look for what to wear and sometimes I even walk out, get to the door, realise that what I’m wearing doesn’t look ironed, or has a question mark, then I rush back in, look around and pick what is available. This is not the best but I guess that’s how he created me because while I continue to repeat and repeat the easy to wear outfits, some would have spent a year without being touched.

I hate it but do not know how to change. My
convenient and comfortable outfits suffer a lot in my hands while the complicated and gorgeous ones remain almost untouched cos I don’t want stress. I can repeat outfits for Africa and I like that it doesn’t bother me.

Ok, all the talking aside now. I am using myself to open the door to Fashion posts on wives connection o. If you look at the blog description, we just added fashion because you can’t separate ladies and even gentlemen sef from that. So, I thought, what is the best way to introduce us to this if not to start with myself. If you send in your pics, I believe there are some ‘Fashionista wives connection’ readers who can look at any outfit photo, edit, delete, add and tell us how your outfit could have looked better. God willing, As I grow older, I want to continue to learn and improve on myself o. I don’t want to carry last at all.

You are not sure you look great in that dress? You think you killed it and no one can challenge? send pics to cuulme@gmail.com, hopefully someone will do some corrections and help you look better when next you dress that way. I’m saying hopefully, because I know that most of us whose comments have disappeared in the last week will be vey discouraged to try again.

I want to use this post to apologise again for loss of comments. I also feel very bad, it was an experiment that went wrong. We tried to see how the addition of Google plus comments to the blog will look like, It was great but anonymous complained they couldn’t leave comments and I had to revert to blogger comments. When I refreshed, every comment left within that period had disappeared from the blog. I was like, “not now! not at a time when people are vexing that I haven’t really been working here, some have even ported in anger and then the wonderful readers left will now not see their comments again? I bind you that spirit!!!”

Ok, back from my sincere apologies. Do you agree with me that my outfit was ok for my son’s dedication or, like my sister, you think it was an epic fail? Please be nice to me. You know we are just trying to encourage ourselves now, try to say something nice and your life will not remain the same as good things will flow your way. If you don’t gree with my dress for that event, abeg no insult o, just mercifully tell me where or what you think I needed to change  to look better.

  1. I'm sorry but you are relatively young and that outfit makes you look older than your age and it is ill fitting and the makeup isn't nice at all. The shoe and bag is not bad but should have matched your gele but still not bad. But pls that outfit dont wear it again, maybe wear one of those chiffon iro and buba its flattering on everyone

  2. We were informed at the village that mothers bringing babies for dedication must be on white blouse with wrapper so I had no choice than to look like my mother.

  4. Shoe and bag dont have to match with gelle. I like a full necked accessories that matches with the head gear. This is ok but you didn't tie that gele well. It's too forward. Gele looks better when pushed backwards. I'll send you my pics later to see if anyone will find where to correct cos me sef can dress gan.

  7. Aunty Eya I think the problem here is the blouse. Its not sitting right on you. Then again i dont know if you have a bit of mummy tummy because if the blouse is fitted all over including the tummy area it will look worse than this.
If you tied the wrapper over the blouse and make the wrapper length longer, then fix your head gear and makeup this pic would b better.

  8. Yes, I know right? I was still a nursing mom then and I hate to untie wrapper before making the milk tank available for baby. Tying under the blouse gave me easy and quick assess. Sorry wc but I breastfed even in public o, all I do is place a shawl over my shoulder or just turn my back to everyone and pop the black eye into baby's mouth for action. Thank goodness now I can tie wrapper on my blouse. The headgear sef, it's after you guys corrections that I'm just realising it minused rather than add some beauty. I'll learn to tie myself even though I wear gele only a few times in a year.
At this time sweat had eroded all the make-up and left the face naked. This blouse eh? that's why when we go Senegalese, they say wear made in Naija. This blouse is a second attempt after the first white blouse failed examination. Forget the tailors sef, there's a tailor that would have made me perfecto but by now as in today, the wouldn't have been ready o, talk about disappointments. The one that made this top never disappoints and never delivers and I needed the white blouse urgently. God bless you sis, I'm noting all the errors for future editing o. I no dey carry last for my head.

  9. Hello! It's been awhile I visited! You did justice to the woman's post on being the bread winner! Well said Aunty Eya, I usually don't comment but am a fashionista or "shopperholic" so u can guess this is interesting to me. Am like you with comfortable cloths as I don't pick my wears ahead of time so my first advice is that you should work on your shopping, consider outfits dat require less ironning. Especially when it comes to dresses, then rearrange your wardrobe and pushout the ones you have not worn in a while, either give them out? Sell them to your friends that will appreciate them( sorry am business savvy) or make it ready for your next big or appropriate event. Secondly on this particular outfit; u can style your top to peplum if you have big Tommy. The silver and white is too close, darker shades go better with silver so a blue shoe and bag would ve been nice to give it a pop of color, for your accessories you did well with your hand bur remember less is more when you wear loads of rings reduce d bracelet to something very thing. You ve a great neckline so any accessory will sit well on u. Just work on colors they ve a way of brightening our look and make us fresh even when stressed. Stylish single pharmacist

  10. Oh, welcome back our stylish pharmacist and thank you so much. You really do know fashion sis. "..consider outfits dat require less ironning"". thanks for this.
It's the wrapper lump sitting on my tummy and showing there like a fat tummy o, my tummy grows when I gain and returns to normal when I loose, so, it works with my weight, lolz.

Aside from blue or black, what other colours could have gone well with this outfit? Can you suggest colours that look great on a not fair and not dark skin? Skin that's like urm…. not chocolate but brighter, like… say… my skin tone.

  11. Am elizabeth, I stumbled on this blog just yesterday and bet me, I love the idea. However, I don't know how to sign in and make my own contributions. Plus your dressing habit is just like mine. While reading your article, I thought for once that you were talking about me. I do not know how to tie gele and every effort I make fails lol its so stressful to me… I can't just pick my clothes ahead of time and that is how I keep
changing clothes and sweating each time I want to go out…so I have made my easy to dress clothes my uniform…. I don't mind wearing them over and over so long I am comfortable in them…so to me, you look just good…but let us follow the advice of those good dressers which says you don't look too good sha.

  12. HonestlyEya, blue would have been the best for that white. And there is no issue with white. It just could have been rocked better. The top should have been a little more creative. Niways what I do during occasions is to get a make up artist to make me up and do my gele. It costs 3-4k and that's fine. You should try that too.

  13. Basically all the rule is mixing light and dark one accentuates the other, bur there are times. Where you can wear all nude(shoe bag, dress) and it ll. Look good and same goes with wearing all black. As for this outfit purple, red, green would also go well with it. Whenever you are confused just match bright and dark e.g white and purple, black and bright blue, grey and yellow, red and brown/dark blue. Ll be here to suggest more to people. And would be glad to contribute. Your skin tone is no problem at all it goes perfectly with all colors, it's black people or light skinned dat ve balancing skin tone wit colors. Stylish single pharmacist. Emphasis on single cos am nt married thou in a relationship bur I also learn from the blog and am glad I found it.

  14. Welcome my dressing sister. To make contributions, you can mail to cuulme@gmail.com and they''d be published on the blog. Thanks for being like me, stressing when it's time to go out and tying gele until all the make up is wiped by sweat, lolz. So I'm not alone in this.

  15. The problem with your dressing was that it's too plain. The blouse has no special effect and the material too was plain.
In such situations, you should have tied your wrapper on the blouse. It comes out better. This does not stop you from breastfeeding cos you only have to loosen the wrapper when it's time to breastfeed and tie it back when you are through. Always insist that your tailor put a rope on your wrapper to make the tying perfect and it won't loosen easily.

Another thing is that you has too many neutral colors going on. White, gold, silver. You could have used an eye popping colour like purple or red to set off the white.
Next time, pls try as much as possible to march your headgear color with your accessories. It comes out better.
    I give you 40%. Lol.

It's easier said than done. Am a culprit too.

  17. Funny enough, I love the outfit. Sometimes, fashion doesn't really mean that you should wear what everyone else wears, most times fashion is what you feel most comfortable in (this doesn't mean you should tie a towel ooo.) I only feel that you had stress lines under your eyes in the picture (what moms doesn't experience that? lol) but the golden yelow gele is lovely, it kinda gave you a glow, same with the neck piece. I love the fact that you wore silver too with your clutch and slipper, that's really nice. Many people don't realize that gold and silver go together when mixed properly. I do not believe that your shoe and bag and gele must match inorder to create the perfect fashion statement. You should have stuck with a gold bracelet and wristwatch though but it's all good. I wouldn't call myself a fashionista but I know quite a lot about fashion. You look good Aunty Eya.

  18. Hello Ma. Your colour combo is on point. Gold and white is very Greek "godessy" if you catch my drift. I would certainly rock it. Blue and white is predictable and quite frankly, boring too!

My only issue with your outfit is the fitting. It certainly has potential. Trust me, if this attire was well fitted, everyone would have thought, "O, what a great outfit". The key here is fit.

Please keep the outfits coming. I loove, looooove you!
