When Your Teenager Views Online Porn, What To Do

Is this a headache banging?I woke up this morning, prayed for all my children and while doing that, something came across my heart like “check their phones today”
The last time I’d checked, all were just pics of their fav celebs like Justin Bieber, One Direction Mercy Johnson, Omotola, Genevieve, Davido etc etc, and the rest were Educational searches. Fast forward just one year of cooling down, feeling good that my kids are still very very innocent.

They have all gone to school this morning, leaving the gadgets carelessly on their not very well laid beds. The first phone I pick is my Twelve year old’s, switch on, there’s no credit so I recharge. Check Browsing history and what???
Youtube videos about ‘IT”
Seriously? I blanked out, felt as light as a peacock feather. My baby? Where did I go wrong? Is it by giving her a phone or by  providing recharge cards?

WHAT TO DO TO PREVENT CHILDREN WATCHING ONLINE PORN:
First, I am trying to search for any software that can
be installed to block these dangerous sites
Next, I intend to sit her down and discuss “the dangers of watching porn” which are:

  • Dullness in school
  • Inability to concentrate in class cos you can’t wait to get back home and continue.
  • Dullness in appearance because your whole thoughts are consumed by your new discovery
  • Lies upon lies cos you want to spend more time with your very bad guilty pleasure
  • Poor academic performance because reading time is used for unacceptable entertainment

Knowing too much too early.

And… Ok before then I’ll think of some more dangers or can anyone help…

I’ll look for a denomination that still bvelieves serioussly in Godly Christian Living and still regularly teaches kids The moral lessons in Biblical stories (Not many still do that anyway). Our places of worship these days na wa o, apart from the very very loud deafening speakers, kids are taught the same topics as adults. What happens to Teaching the story of  Abraham with it’s moral lessons or teaching about Sampson or David and Goliath and a Zillion others. Sorry for deviating sha i’ts anger boiling in me. I teah what I can but i’ts not enough.

  1. Back To What To Do>>>
I will report them to their Father (Don’t know if that is a bad idea o)
I will blame him for giving them smart phones, actually I kicked against that in the beginning but was labelled Old School 🙁

Delete all the bookmarked site and browsing history.
Seize their phones even though that’s where they ‘communicate with friends’ and classmates
Replace the gadgets with torchlight phones but for how long before they complain of home work that needs Online searches.

Report to their Sunday School teachers, School Teachers and Principal ( Not sure this is a good idea).
Waiting patiently for them, tapping my feet on the floor with head bowed. Maybe I need to have a talk with them first and foremost, seriously confused.

Who knows what else I can do to prevent my Teenagers watching porn? I need
                                                                                                               Becee.

  1. In this age? Young adults will certainly get access to things that are BAD. It's our duty to teach them how to differentiate between good and badt. As an adult o, sometimes I bump into these things while searching for a different subject entirely.

  2. I think you shouldnt tell everybody about it. That will be a BIG Mistake. My apologies, Hi I am John de Beloved, and I am Young and Confused.

If you told everyone, that would kill their confidence kinda. I think You should first whip them, (that will work) And then afterwards, have a long talk with them. Play the Fear card, scare them With HIV and STD talk et al. I know its strange talking about Sex to a 12 year old, but its better they hear it from you than from others, or the Dreaded internet.

About their Online assignments, get a Home Laptop instead. Something central that none of them actually owns. Finally, yeah! Seize the phones, and don't give it back till you see change. Cheers.

P.S: Finally i get to see the mind of a Parent. Oya lemme stalk… 🙂

  3. Whip them vry vry well after which u will ve a heart to heart talk with them! Such talk must be after ur temper must ve gone down. Never 4get to replace their phones with simple Nokia touch until they r old enough to use such phones. Pray to God 4 his assistance! Lastly, i hope u don't ve such films in ur cupboard thinking that they r not aware! Goodluck!

  5. Madam flog them very very well, flogging doesn't kill at all. Seize their phones, report them to their father after that, you and your husband should sit them down and talk to them. Dnt report to their teachers that will kill them. Always put them in prayers.

  7. To add: please find out why they are searching for porn in the first place. Find out what's actually in their mind concerning sex and porn. I dunno how U will do this but make them trust you enough to talk.

Also, find out who is influencing them. It can be internal influence. A neighbor, a relative or even YOU! Be sure neither you nor your hubby watches porn. They might have seen it on someone's phone. You know how kids snoop around. In all, just try to handle it subtly but firmly. Don't use the scare tactic cos if they eventually find out (and they will) that on first try, it does not affect them as badly as you painted it, they will continue and device better means to hide it from you. And that's way worse

  9. Thank you Mrs Dayo, Duru, Ugo, Cookies, Ajdaisy and all the Anons.
We had a serious talk after school, and I can tell that won't happen again. My usual self would have gone with some real flogging but thot against it so they do not start hiding stuff from mommy:)
Thinking of telling their Dad but am afraid how hw would take it. Should I just let it go or tell him?
    Thanks again.

  10. Telling their dad depends on the kind of person he is and the relationship you have with him. If he's the understanding type tell him and also what u discussed with the kids so that he can re-emphasize on what you have already discussed with them. He might also have his own ideas you never can tell

  11. You have to tell their Dad o. Compulsorily. This is a 12 year old. She needs to understand the full implications of what she has done. She needs to know that there must never be a repeat.
