My Husbands State Of Origin, Must I Change To That?

I am married to a man from a different state and now the issue of state of origin is coming up.

My question is as a married woman, is it compulsory that I must change my state of origin to my husband’s state or can I keep claimiing my own state in my official documents.

  I don’t
really want to change my state of origin. Please I will really appreciate your reply and that of your readers. Thank you.

  1. Hearing this for the first time. No you should not change it cos I don't think it has any effect on you or ur hubby. The change I know is that of name, which is done so u can serve where ur hubby is and an official change of name so that ur new documents can carry ur hubby's name.

  2. My dear star of origin as it clearly implies is where you from. You are * cross river* till the day you die. But you are married to……. There is a difference. yes you will change your name but your maiden name remains the same forever. It works like that

  4. The truth of the matter is that u change your state of origin to the one that favors you most. If ur husbands state favors u more u change it, if not u leave ur state as it is

  5. You will forever retain your state of origin. Marriage doesn't alter it. State of origin means where you originate from, it has to do with your lineage. Your children will claim your husband's state of origin as theirs but you will retain yours. Being married does not stop you from being your parent's child. You shouldn't lose your identity because you are married.

  7. It is state of ORIGIN not state of MARRIAGE. Your state of origin still remains where you are from. Same way you have a maiden name and a marital name.

  10. It will depend on what you are using it for. In certain govt jobs and opportunities u may need to get cert of origin from ur hubbys place doesn't change anything. If it helps u get what u want why not. I know people who got jobs based on that. Esp where slots are reserved for indigenes of a particular place. Its no big deal and doesn't really change anything. Your not swearing to or announcing anything. You merely go to d local govt and get the paper and that's it.
