Tips, Suggestions And Recipes For The Elderly

Good evening. Please, My father in-law is having some troubles with
foods these days. He does’nt seems to enjoy eating foods like rice, beans,
yam. He was complaining to his son my husband that
he is tired of the foods
we prepares in the house. I really felt for him cos he is very old (87 or
so) and I’ve never heard him complain of anything but to today. I want my
sisters in WC including you aunty eya to give me recipes of what and how to
be preparing foods ( mostly what elderly people enjoys eating and also good
for their health.) for my old man. I really wants to make him happy.
PS: apart from chicken and fish he doesn’t eat any other meat. Thank you.

  1. Its not really unusual for someone his age. Elderly men tend to become eccentric with almost everything! You can try white agidi, white yam(cut very small and boiled very soft) and peppersoup. More of native soups with the much soup and less eba(preferably pounded yam or plantain flour). Try more of ur native food. Regards

  3. Do you know acha? Most elderly people love it. You can make it as pudding for him, or 'gote' if you know it or in form of swallow! And its healthy too!

  4. Ask him what he wants and suggest a few other foods to him. Don't just go and cook stuffs without asking him. I

  5. Acha is good. Potatoes too (boil till very soft). Ukwa (breadfruit), moi-moi, mild peppersoup with soft agidi. Or, like the poster above said, you can ask him what he likes.

  6. What to cook for him will depend on what he fancies so its best to ask him. In all his food please use little salt, little oil, little seasoning, not too peppery food, not too hard to chew or swallow, less sugar, small to medium portion, lots of fruits.
