I don't want to discourage you or make feel worst than you are currently feeling but your son might be autistic. Since he used to talk and then stopped, it's one of the signs. Do your own research on autism and go from there. Most doctors in Naija are so clueless about autism. Hope this helps and good luck

That is exactly what i was going to say he could be autistic. And please stop with the spiritual ish there is nothing spiritual about his not talking.

Most probably autistic poster do your own research on autism coz Nigerian trained doctors can be very clueless on so many things that is how I was dyslexic and everyone said she is just a slow child she will pick up. Only on relocating to England was I diagnosed as being dyslexic and handled accordingly and my grades could never be better after that.

My dear sister, pls believe that nothing is wrong with ur son and stop believing in what others say negatively about him,Kids are different,as far as I'm concien nothing is wrong with ur son, I will advice u change him from that school if u can cos some teachers are anti-Education to some kids e.g my 3yr old son will always read what ever the teacher taught them in school like ABC,123 etc when ever he is at home but the teacher will always complain that he can't read anything,I didn't argue with her so one day my son was busy singing and reading ABC Etc I was busy recording it,the next I went to the school I ask the owner of the school that I will like my kid to be taken to another class and she asked why,I told her to call the teacher and and ask her and when the teacher arrived she told the head that my son can't talk or read anything and the woman said did I hear what the teacher said,I didn't even reply her,I just played that recorded voice of my son to her and ask the so called teacher if she recognise the voice and she said she can't belive it and that was how my son was taken out of her class and now thue he has not started writing well but atleast all my wall knows that my son is going to school cos of the scrabble he writes on them unlike before. 1. LOL @ALL MY WALLS KNOWS HE GOES TO SCHOOL. MADAM NO MIND ALL THEM TEACHERS THAT DONT ENCOURAGE THEIR PUPILS.
POSTER PLS MAKE OUT TIME TO TEACH YOUR SON, START BY TELLING HIM TO REPEAT AFTER YOU.........Aaaaaaaa, Bbbbbbbb, Ccccccccccc etc slowly but surely he will learn. just the same way your little daughter is emulating him, he really doesnt have anyone to except you and hubby.
PRAYER......YOUR PRAYER REACHES OUT EVEN WHERE YOU CANNOT REACH PYHSICALLY. (google divine mercy prayer by 3o'clock) its well

Dear Mrs NCC, I'm not trying to conclude, but we shld sometimes cut the teachers some slacks and not be too hasty to conclude. Ur child-teachers case cld be different, but this is just my bit to parents. Granted that some teachers cld be impatient and nasty wt their pupils, some kids are also withdrawn in schools. They make all the noise and repeat everything they've heard in school when they are back home or alone but wld always keep quiet to questions or class participation in school. My neighbours daughter does this. Ull be surprised to hear her recite songs and notes from school at home nut wld never do that in school(it cld be quite frustrating for the teachers. Lots of patience is required). Funny though, such kids tend to be very intelligent and this poses more confusion to both parents and teachers

  4. Please do not give up on praying for him everyday.
I believe he needs some help such as 1:1 speech and language support. Are there speech and language therapists where you are that can assess him and support him?

My colleagues son had similar slow speech and didn't talk till he was almost 5yrs (now 14yrs and a chatterbox). She saw a speech and language therapist who visited him both and home and in nursery to work with him and he eventually spoke. The boy could say mummy and daddy and pointed when he needed something at 4yrs. He played with his toys and spoke to them but didn't speak to any human. They were made to understand that kids are not the same and will meet their developmental milestones at different times (some much later than others) despite there being an age recommendation for different stages of development.
I hope your son does not show any other unusual signs as my sister's sister inlaw's son will be 4 in 2monthsn he does not talk, he loves dancing and singing, won't talk to anyone and pupu's on himself and starts laughing when he does that. His school has complained and where they are in ilorin the peadiatrician says there's nothing he can do to help them (I think he might be autistic or have learning disability).
Please keep praying for him and if you find professional help please don't refuse it.

My dear worried parent. I understand what you are going through perfectly well. I have been through it all. My second son didn't talk till he was 6 years. I kept my cool and just prayed. Didn't mind any autistic talk
And in my heart I said he is not deaf or dumb so he must talk. I evaluated his speech at four to a one year old and kept my calm. There is nothing spiritual about it. Firstly I would encourage u change his school. My son did play group two times. Now he is 8 years old and all I see in his report card is he talks too much in class. Yesterday the teacher told me my son talks too much I smiled and said for years I prayed for data. He tops his class. He is bold and so out spoken. So don't mind any body focus on ur Don and wen he says or does new thins encourage him and always hail and applaude him. Just like me also u would testify of God's goodness

POSTER: thank u all for reading and commenting on my post you've really helped and strengthen me may God bless you all I was so heart broken when I sent this massage that I forgot to add other things he can say.
He can say A to Z, 1 to 20 though he'll miss some while counting he knows d name of almost everything in the house when we r in the parlour he will point at everything n make sure u repeat after him or he won't stop e.g mummy tv ill say tv he'll smile mummy pillow mummy bread mummy sandals mummy school bag mummy pampers mummy freezer mummy fan mummy orange mummy apple mummy chicken mummy bubafly (butterfly)mummy nepa mummy mamas cerelac etc but can't make a statement. if u tell him to touch all d parts in his body he will without making mistake the other day I forgot his fingers he same mummy fingers (pointing them at me) d only statement he makes r I want to pee I want to popo I want to drink tea n few others which is too small for a 4yr old. He can say am fine if u ask him how he is he can also say my name is bobo wen u ask him his name sha I taught him those ones since its what people ask him 1st when they see him though he won't say them perfectly but a stranger can understand it my problem is he still talks like a baby most times. But I noticed he talks well with the sister e.g mama stop that nonsense, mama sit down, mama sorry weneva d sister cries sha not always, mama take, mama give me n few others. I wish he could stop talking like a baby when we r in church or a friends place cos its always somehow *sobs* he can see som1 he doesn't knw on the street or in church n shout hey hey mu ta la da da lam etc hmmm but he shocked me the day his sister leg was locked in a bag he said oh mama sorry u put ur leg oh oh he didn't see me (I hid n watched them) he removed d sisters leg from d bag I smiled through out d day. .

    1. Madam ur son is perfectly OK from what u posted now. Abegi free d boy joor. Change his school or get him a lesson teacher( home). He plays normal etc. He's definitely not autistic. Autistic kids, in most cases r quiet and looking lost in their own world most times. Ur boy just need a little push from u all and a teacher that is patient, not d type that pushes him to d back of d class.

Nothing is wrong with your son dear. If he talks well at home but not outside the house then he is probably afraid of something or someone. Check if his teachers talk down on him because he does not talk well. Please change his school first opportunity you get. In that Naija sef, they teach children what is more advanced than their age, and when a kid does not catch up, they say he/she is slow. mtcheeew

  15. Hello aunt Eya, how're you doing? Pls i've tried replying this post
but its not going, she could contact me if you wouldnt mind ma. Thanks
ma. Could you pls help me reply this poster thus:
Dear poster, if you said he once called daddy and mummy then i
presume there's less to worry about. We share similar story, my son
will be 6years this year and for three years he couldnt talk not even
call dad or mum. I visited both private and government hospitals doing
several tests but all showed nothing wrong, he also repeated a class
tho he attends a montessori school(where colourful objects are used
for teaching) and that was greatly helpful...my dear, its wasnt easily
especially bcos he was my first fruit(son) but thank God, he
communicates well now though not perfectly and he looks normal o, no
twisted tongue, not stammering. Inshort, i dread staying alone at home
with him now (lol) cos he'll so disturb, ask questions, report
any&everyone dat "looks for his trouble" according to him. Yes! I
involved a speech therapist & cos i'm a teacher i understood what they
were doing& could continue with my son at home.
Dearest Poster,be encouraged and stay positive always not forgetting
to talk to His Creator about it but ensure u've done all medically
test so as not to feel guilty as a parent. GOD BLESS YOU! See you at
    the top!

  17. Dear poster, your child may not be autistic....please don't start worrying about that. Your son is merely developing at his own pace. My son didnt speak properly until he was well over 3 years old. I worried, I prayed and fretted, but today, he's a chatterbox. He's always talking and arguing with me and I hardly get a word in edgewise. So please don't worry about him, rather assist him in the ways you can. Buy him speech DVDs and stuff like that. Very soon, you'll be the one shushing him up always. *hugs*
