She Needs To Terminate This Pregnancy

Happy New Year Mrs Eya,
I have a very big problem that is bothering me. My friend came over to have her baby here in the States. She has been told that the baby is not OK, that she needs to terminate this 23 week old pregnancy.

Evacuating  here will
cost them  twelve thousand Dollars ($12, 000). Please I want to ask, is there any good hospital where it can be done in Nigeria for less than three hundred thousand Naira (#300,000)?

Please post, this is Urgent!

  1. If she is already in the us why come back to naija for it?? Is her life worth less than 12 k? If her reason for going to the us in the first place was to get a more professional and safer health care, why contemplate naija now..sorry for your loss.

  5. Eeeya so sorry 4 her. If they don't have money 4 d termination, they shld call home (Nigeria) for family n friends to raise money for them. Since they can afford to travel, I'm sure they r average or above average finacially. Why come back to do it here, u r there now. U wud have paid almost $10k n above if u had d baby, which was the original plan. No shortcut for life.

  6. She should have the evacuation there cos the medical care and facilities are good. Besides, I don't think evacuation costs up to that amount. If they don't want to spend up to the 12k, then they should go to other states like Texas, precisely Houston cos medical care is affordable there. I was to give birth in Houston and was to pay 3500 dollars for normal delivery. I hope this helps.

  9. @Anita thanks ..evacuation in Houston is not possible because of new law. To have a baby in Tx is cheaper if there is no complications. Again please I want to ask you if you didn't go for antenatal and other fellow up?

  10. You should call other hospitals in your area and compare prices for termination. There may be a cheaper hospital around. What's wrong with the baby? Why does she need to terminate it? Get a second opinion from another doctor just in case.

  11. The reason for going to the US was for the baby to have green card. So now she feels there is no reason to spend all that money.

  12. In my opinion she should come back home and get it done. It's a lot of money to spend on an evacuation she should get a referral from the hospital in the us stating the indication for the evacuation and there are good hospitals in Lagos that can do it in Lagos way cheaper. St Ives in Ikeji's or even LUTH

  14. to get the visa is one thing, to enter the country is another especially when the pregnancy is obvious. At the Port of Entry, you will be asked questions like how old is d pregnancy, what are u coming to do in the US? Blah blah blah and your answers have to tally with what u said duting the interview at the embassy. Then if u say, u are going to give birth there, you might be lucky enough to go into the country, that's after you have shown them proof of payment for delivery at the hospital you intend to use, then a letter from a Dr. In that hospital. They may not allow after all these proofs, it depends on how lucky you are. If dey disagree with you entering, they will put u on the next available flight bak to naija. The reason why they are strict especially with Nigerians is cos many Nigerians in thé past, have gone there, given birth and refused to settle their medical bills b4 leaving the country.
    *hope this helps

  15. I didn't go again. But the 3,500 dollars was suppose to be for antenatal and delivery. Then was I asked, the doctor said CS will cost about double the price of normal delivery. But what's the reason for the evacuation, is evacuating the baby the best/last option?

  17. Let her return to Nigeria ASAP, twelve thousand dollars is just too unreasonable for an evacuation. The more she stays, the more difficult an evacuation. They are very good teaching hospitals that will evacuate with a referral for even less than 100k. Pls the earlier the better.
