My 16 Month Old Baby Eats Only Cerelac What Can I Do?

 I NEED HELP

MY 16 MONTH OLD  EATS ONLY CERELAC WHAT CAN I DO

Hello aunty Eya and WC.
Good morning. Please  I need advice from experienced mothers. My 16 month old refuses to eat baby food or any solid food  except cerelac.  if I try to give her real cooked solid food for babies she cries and says
she doesn’t want it.
Another thing I need help with is that she also refuses to sleep on a bed without me.

I’m so tired because she wakes up at night hungry and wants to cuddle.
I’m about four months pregnant  right now. Scared that when the newborn baby comes she’ll not be able to adjust.  Because I don’t have any help, it’s just me my husband, and the 16 month old baby. We are expecting the next baby this year.
What am I supposed to do please? To solve this problem of my 16 month old baby that eats only cerelac?

  1. In d meantime, give her alternatives like soft cooked yam (u will use ur hand to marsh d yam) mix it with fried egg and give her. U can also try eko and ewedu, biscuit dropped in milk, Golden Morn etc. If she refuses to eat any of these, withhold d cerelac, when she's really hungry, she will eat whatever u give her. Limit d cerelac to once in a day.

  2. It depends the way u give the baby the food some kids like to eat with feeding bottle while some prefer spoon, I have two kids, the first refuses to drink pap with feeding bottle but prefers spoon, the secound one prefers feeding bottle to Spoon, it was not easy to find out which one the other prefers but with time u will know. As for whether she will adjust when the next comes, hahaha u will be surprise when the time comes cos she will be ur help and naturally become the big sis.

  3. I agree with Topaz. My 3month old baby did that with bottle. He prefers getting his milk from the source. I didn't introduce him to bottle earlier coz I wanted to avoid the chance of him having nipple confusion and when I started in October, it was a total mess. He'll cry and ask cry where are you and when he eventually takes it in tears he'll throw everything up.
I refused to accept that blackmail after he showed me onions during our dinner and when next he cried and pushed the bottle with his tongue, I kept it and refused putting him to the breast and he finally accepted it.
    Consistency is the key here.

Happy 3months birthday to my cute lil man J. Mummy loves ya loads hun

  5. My daughter is also 16months and she eats anything I eat except swallow. Try spagetti, mashed yam απϑ potatoes, eggs, rice, fried plantain etc. I did exclusive breastfeeding for 6months and after that she refused to eat any food except breast milk. I tried everything but she didn't yield till I weaned her after her birthday. Now we eat together and I give her milo and milk.

  6. Keep trying different baby foods, when my baby was 6 months he refused to take cereal, now it's his best food. Babies go through stages things change for them at one point it may be moi moi, next spaghetti or noodles, next garri and okra soup etc just keep trying

  7. My dear don't sweat it, she'll naturally eat at the right time, my 2 and half yrs old daughter only started eating real food like 5 months back. But she looked like she was eating real food cos I was giving her groundnut pap very nutritious. It's nothing to worry about try the pap and blended groundnut . My daughters problem was I noticed even Uptodate date she does not know how to Chew & swallow any thing that is not liquid. If u r interested I can let u know how to prepare it.

  8. Mine is 17 months n my 3rd, he started eating with me n his siblings atimes, I assumed he was ready n started giving him what we eat, he suddenly stopped since he discovered I've reduced how many times he takes cerelac. Now he runs away from all food that is not cerelac. He hangs around to eat meat nothing else. I think I will go wit withholding d cerelac n he will be forced to eat. Starting tomorrow, cos he will be starting school in January.

  9. It could be as result of her still teething. Is her dentition formed enough to allow her chew food? Ensure her meals are soft, tender so its easy for her to chew and swallow.
Another way you can get her to pick interest in taking other meals is by sitting next to you on the table when you are having your meals with a little portion served for her; even if she fiddles with it, just let her be. She's gradually come around.
Also introduce swallow with any draw soup. Kids tend to enjoy this cos its easy to swallow and tasty too. Then you can gradually reduce the number of times she takes cerelac in a day.
Be rest assured that even if she doesnt take solids now, she will outgrow it by the age of three. Study her and go at her pace.
    All the best

  13. Hi, sorry I didn't check back early enuff. Ok, first you roast the groundnut briefly not too much just let it have slight touches of brown , then you remove the skin ( the inner skin,) then u need to find where to blend it. You can use your blender but since it's an every day thing it's best to buy like 5 mudus of already peeled ground nut, roast and then take it to a grinding machine. If this is not possible, manage ur blender. Once u have d blended ground nut and your fresh pap separately oo fetch a bit of the ground nut, pour it inside clean water in a bowl and wash your hand very well and keep mixing it. You can use spoon it may just take longer for the paste to completely become semi liquid, then u sieve it cos it will have chaff. 3. Put the sieved groundnut water in a clean pot and bring to boil, let it boil enuff for the groundnut to be cooked( u have to stand by it with a spoon cos it behaves like potash) 3. Once you think it's ok, mix some raw pap in another bowl and pour in the ground nut water to make the pap ( it's the same way you make pap just that instead of ordinary water you use pap.) it's very healthy for children. Sorry this may be confusing you can still ask further question.

  14. Yes it might be early but in nine months her baby will be almost 1 and half which is not too bad, let her just leave it if it's pregnancy.
    Just my thot though.

  15. If she eats cereal she will eat golden morn. When she is a bit older introduce her to it. in the meantime keep trying everything. incorporate different things somehow. let her just start little by little. Make d cerelac her base but feed her other things like egg yolk, mashed potatoes, even mashed noodeles, blended oats, etc. she will eat eventually.

As for the bed issue no be today o. Infact myself, hubby and our four children sleep on d same bed. Lol. if u don't want your case to be like ours, take her to her room, lie in bed with her till she falls asleep then leave the door open. Also leave a source of low light for her. Awwww. I feel sorry for her already. Only her.

@Uncle Ace, please I used to cherish your comments on this blog but abeg I know that u don't understand these things prolly never will (men Smh) but its not a freaking joke and that Yerima bit was as insensitive as it can possibly get. Please take correction.

  21. My baby is 15months most times takes only cerelac and nutribom. On few occasions, she takes ogbono soup with semovita. But first she licks the soup from my finger to see if she likes it. If she takes it like twice, I mash the semo in the soup and give her. She also likes pineapple, oranges and banana as well. Recently, she has started taking tea and bread. With patience, your baby will start eating too.
