Is My Fiance Saying The Truth?

My name is ********* and am 26yrs old. I came across your website about AS genotype marriages and I saw your Gmail and decided
I will email you.
Am in a relationship and we are both AS and am not sure am getting the full knowledge of the test to be done to check the genotype of the child in the womb. My fiance is a lab scientist in a Teaching Hospital in Nigeria and seems to know everything needed.  He’s convinced we will not have challenges with SS children.

Am worried and please can someone elaborate more to me and give me your advice as of what you think about the test and is it truly done in Nigeria?

  1. Hmm be ready to abort some children,if the test shows that the genotype is SS. Can you go through the series of test required and terminating pregnancies? The woman is always on the receiving end

  2. Well I am not a nurse, but I have had an anut who is one explain the process of how the test is carried out to her daughter!
    1. Ur navel will be shaved a bit(d skin)
    2. A long needle will be inserted tru ur navel to reach the fetus in order to get blood sample (if I remember)
    3. If the fetus is SS, u will be having an abortion!
    4. These processes are PAINFUL!!!!!
How many times would u go tru the process? How abortions before u have a "perfect child" so to say?
Pls my dear if anythg happens to you, dis man will re marry a "perfect" woman!
    Think well!
Much love and all the best!
    Tee!

  4. This is not the end of the world for you and your fiancé. If you two truly love each other and want to get married there are different options you can look into to prevent giving birth to a child affected with sickle cell disease. IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is a procedure where the doctor retrieves your eggs and matches them up with your husbands sperm. Once the eggs become embryos they can undergo genetic testing beforethey get implanted back into your womb. This procedure is expensive so it depends on how much you all can afford. Two people who are AS (have the sickle cell trait) have a 25 percent risk of giving birth to a child with sickle cell disease. So your fiancé is wrong and I hope he is not telling you this just so you two can get married. He should know better than that. I think before you get married you and him need to have a serious discussion and explore your options. If he is not willing to talk or to listen then maybe you should reconsider this whole thing…. All in all, it's not the end of the world, but it's something to be taken seriously.

  5. Abortion is a sin Ooº°˚ pls don't forget n that is the only thing that ll be done to get rid of the child. God will not be happy with you Ooº°˚ and in your trouble times you will need him so pls don't upset Him from the start by consenting to abort you children. Say NO to the devil now and break that relationship and trust me you will be happy you did cause God will bring your match your way. Please I am begging the awareness is too much now for people to be taking such decisions pls and pls

  6. Abortion is bad, and what made u think God will keep on putting babies in ur womb for u to be testing and aborting till u get d one with Aa or as? Wat of if Gods plan is to give u only two kids and when u must have aborted d two cos of ss will u be happy being childless? Will ur man accept u like dat? Pls dnt take dat risk o!

  7. The genotype issue is one of the most important areas to touch before walking down the aisle. Any mistake, you could end up being unhappy and traumatized for the rest of your life. Now that I can decipher that you are pregnant, hmmm. I hope your fiancee being a lab scientist will not advice you to opt for genotype-selective abortion, should the baby be SS. That will unequivocally be murder. Taking such a great risk of marrying someone who shares the same SS genotype with you and ending up with SS offsprings is not fair to the kids. The health hazards for the child is just way too unbearble. For me, the genotype issue is a serious and very pertinent one and not worth gambling into. It should be one of the first issues to be discussed before people really get serious in a relationship. People need to learn to practice tough love and leave. Now that you are pregnant, it is a bit of a tough one. But please, genotype selective abortion should not be an option. It is morally wrong. Be rest assured of my prayers. Wishing you the best.

  10. Before you marry somebody, there are a lot of factors to consider, children is just one of it. However,if you are an African living in Nigeria,it is a very important factor. Your lab scientist fiance is fooling you,for every conception, you have a 1/4 chance of having an SS,you may be lucky and never have an SS and you may be unlucky and all you will have an HbS child. I'm telling you as a heamatologist(Drs that take kia of HbS patients) that if you are not ready for the trouble don't bother going down this road!. Chorionic villious sampling is not readily available in Nigeria, and even if u get it,are u ready to start aborting ur babies all in the name of love?, and bringing an HbS child into this world knowingly is the most selfish and wicked thing a parent can do to a child!. Before you take a decision, visit the Haematology clinic/ward in the teaching hospital ur fiance work in ,u may be unfortunate enough to meet an SS in crisis, what they go through is unbearable !!!.
    A word is enough………..
