Kitchen Tips: All You Need To Know About Boiled Eggs. Hello Eya, good morning, please post this for me.
Every term my boy comes home for holidays and is always surprised at how there is so much difference between the eggs we boil at home and the ones they are served at school.

He says that at home, he observed the eggs I boil never crack even if taken from the cold fridge into boiling water, again.

my boiled eggs are very easy and fun to peel (shell) while the ones served at school are so frustrating with the white (albumen) coming off when one tries to remove the shell. And that sometimes most of the boiled eggs are already cracked in the pot before cooked.

The tips I shared with him are what I want to share with other readers because I know there are many people who just boil eggs like yam and the end result
is always unpleasant. I remember those Secondary School days when I loved to buy boiled eggs and removing the shell is always a chore with the egg white coming off from the yoke.

Egg Boiling Tips:
  1. Wash eggs with detergents like Omo, Klin or Ariel. I don’t know why but washing with these gets to harden the shells and no one cracks during boiling.
  2. Boil water and add eggs to boiling water or put the eggs in a pot and pour the boiling water in the washed eggs; This way you can time the cooking to avoid over boiling ( I don’t like hard boiled eggs neither do I like half cooked eggs). My eggs boil for 10 minutes and I get the perfect boiled eggs.
  3. Once it’s ten minutes boiling time, remove eggs from boiling water and drop straight into cold water where they stay until you can handle with bare hands to remove egg shells.
  4. Following one to three above, you discover that your boiled eggs come out with no stress, perfect, yummy, easy to peel, fun to eat and healthier too. (Aunty Eya, next time I’ll send pics please). I also sent the other mail with kitchen tips on white and brown beans.
Thank you, begin to enjoy your boiled eggs cos am very sure that my son’s school chefs didn’t do any of those that’s why their boiled eggs turn out that way.

  1. Or, you can simply add a pinch of salt in the water you intend boiling the egg in. It works like magic. And Once it boiled, just drop the egg in cold water so it'd come off easily.

  3. The best way to cook egg and ensure it it well cooked is to first put your egg in a pot or whatever and add cold water then put on the fire. once the water boils, put out the fire and leave your egg in hot water for five minutes before putting in cold water to cool.Your egg will come out easily. Washing egg has no effect on how well it cooks. Don't know about adding salt sha.
