How Is Garlic Used Please And What Does It Do To Food?.  How garlic is used and what it does to cooking. please anty eya I’d like you to ask you and WC readers what garlic does to food and how its used.

I grew up in a household where garlic was NEVER used for cooking stew/or any food,so I really don’t know how to use it.

I’ve come to a stage where I’d like to experiment with food and learn new things as regards food.cooking is almost turning

into a hobby for me! Lol. So please help with my enquiries!

I want to buy garlic powder to experiment with it but I don’t know how to go about using it.I’ll be very grateful if you and WC family can shed more light on this. Thank you very much!

Hello poster, there is a post on the blog on 35 garlic uses in cooking. Please check it out and know also that garlic is a superfood. We all need it in our system cause of the numerous health benefits and flavour it adds to cooking.

Sure it does. Makes food taste better and richer. Garlic is good for pregnant women and it
can be used without removing the skin.
Follow the link above to the blog post and see the 35 uses. You can add to stir fries and other foods. I have never added to Nigerian soups and don’t look forward to trying but for other foods and stews, Garlic is great.

  1. I have come to a point where I can't cook any food without adding garlic. It is an active spice that makes food very tasty. it is actually a regular in all my cooking. It gives an aromatic flavour to meat, especially chicken.

  2. It is a spice, it acts as an antioxidant which helps reduce the activities of free radicals in the body, it hepls to fight cold but it should be used in moderation as some people can't stand the smell. You can use garlic for everything you use onions for, can use it in zobo, kunu, stew, soup, chinchin. My mum also adds kanafuru, don't know the english name to soups and stews and it comes out fine! Cheers. Amaka

  3. Dear poster, I'll suggest you use fresh garlic cloves and not garlic powder as it doesn't taste the same.
Garlic can be chopped and used to season meat, chicken or fish. It can be used to to cook stew by blending it with ur tomatoes, can be used for jellof rice, fried rice or any food really.

  4. U can use garlic for almost every food except soups and some traditional dishes. U can even cook beans with it. I don't subscribe to the dry powdered one…u get more flavour from fresh garlic.

  5. To store fresh garlic for use during the week pound the chopped garlic using a mortar and pestle add some lemon juice put in a plastic or glass container and store in the fridge. Alternatively you can pound fresh garlic and ginger together add lemon juice and store in the fridge to use in cooking your meals for the week. You can even freeze the mixture. The lemon juice acts as a preservative. This is how my mum did it and how am doing it saves me so much time as garlic goes into all my meals. Also a perfect cure for cold and flu boiled with ginger add lemon and honey and you are good to go.

  9. I think its cabbage too in yoruba, those hausas that sell salad ingredients have them. The outer layer is green while the inner layer is white/cream. It is round with alternating leaves which look creased. Good cabbage shld be firm and nt too dry or with wilting leaves. I hope I helped

  10. Apart from stew, you can use garlic to steam your meat, fish, chicken. The aroma you get is inviting! Its medicinal too just as others have stated.
