Nigerian Cooking Tips: Salted Dodo

Nigerian Cooking Tips: Salted Dodo
Salted fried plantain  (Dodo) with cooked beans.

My salting dodo before frying has come under criticism a lot of times from people who say dodo doesn’t need any salt. I have heard people order for food and request that their dodo be fried without salting. For me, whether salted or not, I see no difference. Ripe plantain is ripe plantain. I love dodo and can eat it anyhow.

The only little problem is I try to eat less and let children enjoy more cos of  weight watching wahala.

These days I “cheat”
a lot. I just pray this my struggle to lose weight won’t be in vain. When I didn’t plan to lose, No one brought temptation foods in the house. Just when I made up my mind to try and keep a healthy size is when all sorts of tempting foods are flowing in. #sigh

Someone said it’s the devil that causes obesity cos he knows it’s unhealthy and I didn’t believe. The type of temptations and crave for sweet foods is making me think something may be wrong. I think I need to start praying about this. I need God to reduce the rate of temptation around me at this time abeg.

Back to salting our ripe plantain. How do you fry your dodo please? I don’t want to be salting dodo if no one else does. Do you like your dodo salted or fried without?

  1. If banana can be eaten without salt, why should plantain be different? I add salt but once in a blue moon, since too much salt is of no use; I try cutting it down as much as I can.

  3. Hello anty Eya Good morning!

I add a tiny pinch of salt to plantain before frying.I believe it makes it taste better! Lol

About the devil causing obesity and the craving for sweet foods, hmm. Anty I had to pray about my own craving!
I had this very unhealthy addiction to soft drinks, especially PEPSI. I Loved pepsi! At first it was coke. During my university days I drank so much coke I was notorious for coke drinking. I guess Because coke was sweet and filling. All I had to do was drink coke and eat gala, and I could go the whole day without food. Later on I switched to pepsi, and this addiction stayed with me a long time. Almost everyday.
But then I knew that this addiction was a ticking time bomb. Asides from being chubby, how could I be filling my body with all that sugar?! I tried to stop but I couldn't.
One day I went on my knees and I asked for Gods help. I rebuked the demonic craving(cus I knew this craving was destroying my body, and anything that destroys is devilish jare) and I asked God to take away the craving for soft drinks.
And like a joke, the craving died. I don't take soft drinks again. When I do,I can't finish it. I drink gallons of water now(LOL) and I've noticed the difference in my body. My body is lighter,I don't get tired easily and I feel better all round.I was shocked actually. God helped with my craving for soft drinks!

Moral of my long early morning story? Pray about your cravings and the things that tempt you.ask God for help to resist. And no joke, cus our bodies are our responsibility. If we don't take care of it,it will begin to have problems. God is always willing to help,in big, small, and seemingly irrelevant things!! LOL.
Have a nice week anty eya and WC family!! (˘ﻬ˘)

  4. I salt my dodo sometimes when I am eating it with eggs but with beans, no need.

Aunty Eya, hope you're not depriving your self much? You can eat like 10 times a day just make each meal very small. Like 4-5 spoons of food. Seriously, it worked for me… For a while…lolz

But seriously, try a detox program. Maybe spend three days on nothing but water and fruits like Oranges and water melon. (Not all fruits o). The next three days add veggies of all types, then the last three days add chicken peppersoup (you can drink as much as you want). Detoxing helps curb your craving for salt and sugar.

Check online, there are many you can do then that will help with the cravings. And you'll lose some extra kg just by the detox alone and you know ur system is clean. Also try fasting for one day a week. You fast throughout the day and eat the next day. If you add prayer to ur fasting, good for you!

Also try taking grape juice and aloevera only for three days…with loads of water. If you can't get fresh aloe vera, buy Forever Living Aloevera gel. If you dnt like the taste add a little ginger and honey.

But still pray o. In fact when you start this detox, that's when you'll feel like you'll fall sick, or it wnt work or that maybe you dnt even need to lose weight. The devil no dey rest… Lol

  7. Remember to throw away oil after using a few times. Research has shown that heating same oil over and over again is not healthy.

  9. You always start on a friendly note, then cunningly relapse back to evil witch hunting. Are you a witch or ghost? Sure you are human with blood running in your system? I DOUBT.

  13. I'm not a fan of sweet food and therefore don't buy plantain or else my hubby requests for it.(I love green plantain tho)
Generally I don't like frying coz its a waste of oil as the oil has to be thrown after use. (For me sha)
I grill my meat n fish b4 stewing, it has the same effect as frying for me and its healthier than frying.

  15. Aunt Eya,not just dieting o,exercises too.food gets stored as glycogen which is then converted to fat.so the idea is to burn the calories off ahead.long walks and runs helps.you could runn in early hours of the morninng or late inn the evning around ur Neighborhood,so people won't start staring.shorts, tshirt and a comfy tennnis,a bottle of water, those tiny mp3s which could be strapped around ur arm or tucked in ur waist, cos music helps a lot,or better still a running partner.all these and your determination works.
And for the dodo,I salt my dodo most times, expect when am cutting them directly into the oil(lazy me) or if its too soft/overripe.salt makes overripe plaintain really mushy

  17. Anony 10:22am,take a cold bottle of water and direct ur hate somewhere else. And shame on you too dear. 🙂

If u think I'm going to start hating on a faceless person In a blog, you have another thing coming. Sister is faceless,I am faceless, and so are you. I have one life to live, and I'm not going to spend it hating, especially on a blog. I like anty eyas blog, and I refuse to be part of negativity that is struggling to enter it. And besides sister has apologised.

Spend ur time hating the devil and praying. It will produce results. Thank you! 🙂
