Let’s Talk Beauty By Chinazor Ezeh

Good day WC fam’lee

We’ve been doing a lot of food talk, and solving a lot of ‘matters of the heart’ issues, so today, I think it’s time we talk beauty.

This post is for the ladies especially, but I guess the guys can

benefit from it too.

Just as it is important to know how to cook and manage the home-front properly, it’s also important to know how to maintain your beauty and ensure that you look stunning always…. believe me, the men notice. I mean, what man wouldn’t love a wife who can cook, manage their home and also has beautiful skin and looks amazing always?

So today, I’ll give you some beauty tips
Which will go a long way in helping your appearance.

1). Maintain a

facials routine. The routine entails cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, masking, and moisturizing. And when I say maintain, I mean do so religiously… If possible do it on a particular day every 2 weeks. Pick a day and tag it “facials Sunday” or “facials Tuesday“…...any day that is convenient for you. But you should moisturize everyday.

2). When buying your beauty products, please remember to buy the products that are made for your skin-type. If you are oily, buy water-based products, and if you are dry-skinned, you can buy oil-based products. If you are sensitive, remember to do “patch-tests” to tell if you will react to the product or not. Do the patch test on any part of the skin that is usually covered by your clothes.

3). Drink lots of water (I’m a work-in-progress in this area), it makes your skin glow from within by flushing out toxins from your system.

4). When choosing your foundation, pick one that is your exact skin color. There isn’t meant to be a contrast between your foundation shade and your skin color. It is meant to blend properly into your skin so that you  won’t look like you are wearing a mask. I always see ladies who say they wear MaryKay bronze 507 foundation when in truth, they are supposed to be using bronze 607. If you are not sure about your foundation shade no matter the brand, please go to the store and have them test on your jaw-line, and remember to do so under natural light. The same rule applies when choosing a powder.

5). If your lips are constantly dry and chapped, then you probably need to exfoliate and moisturize them always because there are dead skin cells on those lips. As a makeup artiste, I come across a lot of chapped lips, so I figured that a lot of people don’t know that they should moisturize and exfoliate their lips. There are lip scrubs in some stores for sale, but if you don’t have any, you can just use granulated sugar mixed with a little honey to scrub. You can even use just a soft toothbrush to scrub gently. This will ensure that you always have supple, smooth-looking, kissable lips. Hey, Guys can use this info too!

6). When doing your brows, please stay faaaaaaaar away from black pencils! Don’t use red or wine-colored pencils either… This is 2013 not 1990…… Use brown instead. Also, when using lip liners to line your lips, use a pencil that is the same color as your lipstick. It can be a shade or 2 darker than the lipstick if you want it to be obvious, but it should be the same color.

7). If you like to apply blush, always choose a color that matches your lipstick color. If you don’t have a blush that is your lipstick color, then, use a neutral/natural blush color instead.

Those are the tips I thought to share with you all. There will be more some other time…. by HIS special grace.

Stay beautiful!

  2. For what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and loose his soul. Would it be better to sell your soul to satan to gain fame, wealth, power, etc or to live a righteous and holy life yet remain humbled by the holy spirit but inherit the kingdom of God? Take the parable of Lazarus and the rich man in the bible [Luke 16: 19]
Even if you spend 200 years on earth, it is nothing compared to eternity we would have to spend either in heaven or in hell. Its a choice we all have to make. We can't serve two masters at a time. We have to choose who we would serve. Jesus is calling on you to give your life to him. He loves you and wants to remove that heavy load off your shoulders. He loves you and wants to give you eternal life. He dosent wish that you should perish. Why don't you make a decision today for no one knows when the Lord shall come and tomorrow may be too late. Have a blessed day.

  7. My dear, that water thing is hard for me sha. I'm used to drinking water only when i'm thirsty, but I heard its bad because thirst is your body's way of letting you know that it's dehydrated. So waiting till you are thirsty is not a good thing. I now force myself to drink water. Even early in the morning (that's the one I hate most!)

For the facials, buy a gentle facial cleanser either in bar or liquid form….I prefer liquid. You can get any brand u like. Personally, I prefer Mary Kay cleansers or cetaphil gentle cleanser for all skin types. For the facial scrub, you can buy St. Ives Apricot scrub. For the mask, if you have oily skin, it's better for you to use a clay or mud mask… I recommend ' Queen Helene mint julep masque'. If you have dry skin, go for the hydrating gel masks that dries on the face and you peel it off.

For moisturizer, just use the one that suits your skin type. And if the one you are presently using is good, stick to it.

  8. If you want your brows to have a defined arch, then you ought to remove stray hairs by shaving, tweezing, waxing or threading.

If your brow hairs are the stubborn type, then you should prolly also get a brow gel to brush and hold them in place so that they will stop scattering after you have defined them. If you don't have a brow gel, a clear mascara will do just fine.

  13. I try sha….loolz! You're welcome. You can just do your facials once every forthnight. It doesn't take up to 1 hour. 45 minutes is okay. To me, the most tiring part of facials is the steaming part because then, I have to bend over a bowl of hot steaming water with my head and the bowl covered with a towel for at least 3 minutes.

  14. You can get them at any good cosmetics store. The prices depends on the brands of the products. Cleansers cannot be more than 3k, the St. Ives scrub I mentioned is about N1,200. I can't remember how much I got the mask, but I don't tink it's more than 2k either.

  15. Wish I culd dash you ooo! Loolz!

I like the tangy taste of lime and lemon, so I squeeze either of them into my water. I'm not sure you'll like that anyway. Why not add a 'lil bit of Nutri C powder in yours? Try out any flavor you want.

  16. You can tell what type of skin you have by conducting a skin test. This is how it's done….

Wash your face with your cleanser, pat your face dry.

Wait 20 minutes so that your face will have time to secrete whatever it has to secrete.

Use a blotting paper to dab different areas on your face

    Now, here's the result below…..

If you have dry skin, then the blotting paper will be dry.

If you have normal skin, the paper will also be dry.

If your skin is oily, the paper will become translucent, as in you know how a tissue or a light paper looks when oil touches it? That's how the blotting paper will look when dabbed all over your face.

If you have combination skin, only your 'T-zone' area will be oily. The T-zone area is the area on your forehead and the bridge of your nose.

Now, you can have any of the ski types above and discover that your skin reacts easily to certain products and situations. It means that you have sensitive skin.

  17. I used a MAC brow pencil in brown. Not the original MAC by the way. I used the one they sell N100. The original MAC comes in 'spiked' and 'Stud' and sells for about N3,500 each or so……i'm not very sure.

MaryKay has good moisturizers….. (i'm not affiliated with them oooo! I just use some of their products). Victoria's secret moisturizers are also nice.

  20. Well, if it's properly done and well shaped, complete with an arch…I don't see why not. It's only bad when you see ladies who shave off their brow hairs and have a straight black line tattooed in place of their brow hairs.

  21. You need a good mattifier for your face. Use it before applying your foundation. What it does is that it helps absorb oil secreted by your face. I advise that you should use a mattifier that is same brand with the foundation you use.

Also always have blotting paper with you to blot away any oil that happens to escape the absorbing effect of the mattifier.

If you don't have a mattifier, you can use Milk of magnesia. It does a good job. But please be careful not to overuse it because it can over-dry your face which won't be good at all.

@Anon dear I seriously need to tap into some of your appetite for water o! I drink well when I'm eating but drinking water for the sake of it is where I need deliverance lol. It's so bad that even when I'm thirsty I don't look forward to it. I'm encouraged by your comment! Thanks.

  27. Honestly, I'm not so good at recommending fancy creams. I barely use one myself. sometimes, i even use pears baby lotion. But presently, i'm using one of Victoria's secret moisturizers.

If the one you are using is okay, why not stick to it? Some ladies actually ruin their skin due to various cream changes. If the dh7 looks good on you, my dear, continue with it you hear?

  28. No, i'm not saying that you can use a mascara instead of a brow pencil. You should use a brow pencil to draw and fill in your brows, then after that, use the clear mascara to brush the hairs in place. When the mascara dries out, it will hold the hairs.

  29. Choi! This one pass me ooo! I know that uneven skintone is as a result of pigmentation sha.

Those dark areas are the worst hit by the sun, so it would help if you wear sunscreen or products that have SPF (sun protection factor).

The best bet now is to make those dark areas you mentioned to become lighter to match your legs. The sun's rays are strongest between 10am – 4pm, sp please avoid too much sun exposure during those times.

Try using lemon on your skin. I've read severally that it tones the skin, but i'm not sure how you are supposed to use it. maybe you should rub the fresh juice on your face and the other problem areas, leave foe a while and then wash off. It's either that or you buy products that have lemon in them.

I'm no expert ooo! but this is what i think sha.

    *Runs away*

  30. Hmnnn, razors are pencil devourers oooo! Buy a cosmetic sharpener. It's specially designed for eyebrow pencils, eye liners and lip liners. It's better than normal pencil sharpeners, it's also better than those tiny sharpeners found on top of Davis eyebrow pencils and the other brands.

You can purchase the cosmetic sharpener from any good cosmetics store.

  34. Ok, this is how to do steaming at home…

Boil some water and pour into a small bowl, place bowl on a low table.

Bend over the bowl with your head directly over it so that the steam will come straight at you, but please, don't put your face very close to the bowl.

Next, cover your head and the bowl with a towel. Cover completely so that the steam will have nowhere to escape from. This way, it will seep well into your pores, open them up and melt any congealed oil within and draw them out to the surface of your skin.

All you need is hot water. You don't need to add anything to it, but if you like, you can add a drop or 2 of essential oils like lavender or chamomile into the water.

  36. A mattifier is a product that absorbs oil on the face. It's used mostly for combination and oily skin….if you have combination skin, use it just on your T-zone 'cos that's where oil usually shows up. It makes the face matte and devoid of oil…hence the name 'Mattifier'.

Blotting papers are relatively easy to get 'cos they can be found at good cosmetic stores. I use MaryKay and i bought mine for N500. It contains 75 papers. Tara also has……infact, there are many other brands.

  38. Below is a list of the basic things u need and a price for each. Note that you might be able to get them for lesser amounts depending on the brands

Foundation N1,800. This would get you 1 MaryKay foundation
Powder N2,000. This would get you 1 MaryKay , sleek, zaron or iman powder
Lipsticks N 1,000 Revlon lippes cost about 800- N1000 each
Lip liners N750 Zaron's costs N750 each, Jordana costs N450 each
    Eyeliners N750. Same as above
    Brow pencils N200
Blush N2,000 This can get you a 3-in-1 blush palette by sleek. Can also get you 2 black radiance blushes at N800 each.
    Mascara N1,200
    Liquid eyeliner N1,000
    Eyeshadows N2,200 per sleek palette
Eye primer N2,100. This will get you a Tara primer or a MaryKay primer…MaryKay is N1,500
    Kajal N300
    Lipgloss N1200

So, those are the basic products right there. There are even cheaper brands than those sef just like there are more expensive brands. A 'Blackup' foundation goes for about N8,800, and an Iman foundation goes for about N4,500. MaryKay lipsticks go for N2,000 each while MAC goes for N4,500 each. See why I can't tell you exactly how much you need? I don't know if you want high-end or low-end products. Now that I've given you an idea, you can decide on a budget and go get the brands you want.

But, please do you know how one can get rid of or conceal those dark spots caused by acne? I have a few of them on one part of my cheek. They are not really obvious, but I want to have like your kind of face 🙂

  45. Amen in Jesus name…..fire! Loolz!

MOM is actually an antacid used for tummy issues, but apparently, a certain genius discovered that it has mattifying powers. So it can now be used on oily faces to control shine 'cos it stops oil from surfacing on the face and ruining your makeup.

It's sold at pharmacies, but I think it's scarce now.

  46. Concealers are used to cover under eye bags. Concealer is different from foundation. It is of a thicker consistency actually.

The ideal method is to apply foundation before concealing stuff (that's how I do it anyway). You find out that if the blemishes on the face are not so much, after applying foundation, you may have no need for the concealer anymore because the foundation might end up covering the blemishes ( depends on the kind of coverage the foundation has though)

A full-coverage foundation should cover up most of the blemishes. If after applying the foundation some blemishes and the under eye bags are still visible, then dab on concealer in those areas.

    Reply
  47. Since the spots are not really obvious, perhaps just foundation will cover them. But if after applying foundation they are still showing, then a concealer will do the job. MaryKay bronze 1 or bronze 2….depends on your complexion.

  52. It's an antacid used for constipation and the rest of such issues.

Please ladies, if you have normal or dry skin, don't go near Milk of magnesia ooooo! It will over-dry your skin.

It's for oily and combination skin. For oily skin, soak a cotton ball wit MOM and dab all over your face, let it dry, then apply your foundation and powder over it. For combination skin, you only need it on your T-zone area.
