There has always been a misconception of the secrets to looking good. Some say its skipping meals or going on a strict diet,others say it is only strenuous exercise. But thinking about these secrets, how long can one skip meals for? how long can one be on a strict diet for? What happens when one is unable to exercise?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Losing/gaining weight is about the body metabolism. A high body metabolism means that food (calories) is burnt faster and so reduces weight gain/ fat. While a  low metabolism means that food is burnt slower thus when food intake is more than the usual amount , the  excess food that could not be burnt stores as fat in the body. Having explained this, some of the do’s and don’t secrets to maintaining metabolism ( hence the weight) are as follows.
 
DO’s
a) Have your normal 3 square meals daily but in small portions. Why?
 i) Eating in small portions makes it easier for food to be burnt. 
 ii) Skipping meals to lose weight  lowers the metabolism speed and so when one goes back to having 3 square meals, the body stores excess food the rest as fat. This explains the reason for the boom-bust-boom  observed in some people’s  weight.      
 
b) Exercise at least 3 times weekly .Why?
Exercise boosts one’s body metabolism because one needs energy (from burning food) to perform them. Daily exercise is really recommended for those who are on the very big side and desire weight loss. Examples  of recommended exercises are cycling, running, walking, jogging.
 
c) Drink lots of water .Why?
i) Toxins are created while the body burns food slows down the speed of metabolism. Water flushes out these toxins out of the body thereby boosting metabolism.
ii) It suppresses appetite thus reducing calorie intake.
 
d) Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
 
e) Have a proper night’s sleep.
 
DON’TS
a) Don’t forget the saying that you are what you eat. So, avoid or reduce the intake of foods with high sugars and fat.These include, snacks, white rice, bread or pasta, pounded yam/eba,  fizzy drinks. Instead consume a small quantity of white rice/brown rice (If you can), whole-meal/brown bread, brown pasta/spagetti, fruits and vegetables .Even if the temptation to snack is irresistible, snack on low fattening foods such as unflavoured popcorn.
 
b) Don’t eat past 8/9pm depending on your sleeping time so that consumed food could digest properly  before going to bed or else it is stored as fat.
 
c) Don’t eat too much carbohydrate or protein such as going on a low carb or vegetarian diet.Try and eat a balanced diet but don’t forget in SMALL PORTIONS.
 
d) Don’t give up and never say it is impossible. This is applicable to those  who want to lose a lot of weight. Do not hesitate to pick up when you slack. It is all about hard work, determination and relentlessness .Most importantly, commit all into God’s hand and ask for his Grace.
 
Finally, endeavor to incorporate these guidelines into your daily lifestyle and see results for yourself. Looking good is serious business. Cheers!

  1. lol. Mmmmh *thinking* though question.Firstly, you are lucky you are on the other side of the river(slim physique)lmao! Ok eat 3 square meals in the right proportions as I have noticed most of my slim friends skip meals alot and when they eat in very small portion.Ermmm, can't think of any other.but please don't go crazy on junk. Miss N.

  2. My weight fluctuates a lot. When I get serious with eating smaller portions, it comes down. Once In started enjoying food and get carrieds away, It booms back. I wish I can just maintain it small but lonnga throat no gree me.

  3. i would advice u try and oncorporate exercise especially toning up ur muscles to control the fluctuation in addition to your small portions.

  4. Yes ooo me too I hve a similar problem too with big tommy thou I hve had like 4 CS. will it still be flatten with excersise, if yes what type?

  5. hmmm ok,am not an expert but probably a combination of small portions of food,jogging, and workout for abs would help.Check youtube for exercise for abs.

  6. My dear, nothing is impossible even after 4 CS.Just that i feel it would really take lots of determination,dedication and consistency in your case.Just adhere to the tips above and do lots of abs workout.Be positive minded too.

But let me suggest these: You can look for it at any Fitness store where Gym/Fitness equipment are sold, Ikeja mall, The Palms shopping mall (Maybe at the 'Games') or any of the stores that sell DVDs, or you can try and give E-commerce sites, 'Jumia' or 'Shop Konga' a call, to see if they can do a pre-order for you of the DVD. You'll find their numbers on their websites. You can ask all these road-side sellers too. I don't know if they have successfully pirated it yet o.

  10. You think peeps on d slim side are lucky? May be for ladies sha but I mst confess when a guy is slim I don't knw d definition to give; so pls help out; hubby is slim as in vry slim; weighs less than 50.He is a medical Doc; hardly av tym to eat even when he takes food to hosp; he brings it back home @times meaning skippg both breakfast and lunch; buh what will I do na. If dr r junks u can recommend I don't mind oh, since he is a doc he will knw when to stop I think
