How To Make Nigerian Buns, My First Attempt

Urmmmm.... Beautifully made buns
This weekend, I tried to reproduce Ayaoba's buns and this yummy buns are what I got at the end. I'm on a journey of losing 10kg so, I tried my best to keep
from finishing one. I only bit once. The kids and hubby liked it and asked for more. I guess I will go for a second attempt. My second attempt is going to look better I promise. Don't let the whitish look deceive you please, these buns tasted very good. I know some of my mistakes now and will correct them when I make again.

Ayaoba's recipe was very easy to follow cos of the step by step pics. My flour is not self raising so I added a pinch of baking powder.
Adding nutmeg powder to sieved flour
 Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoonfuls sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • 5tablesppoonful milk
  • water
  • Soya oil

Adding Salt to Flour
Adding milk to whisked eggs
For the proceedure check out Ayaoba's buns recipe
Milk, eggs and water are added to flour to make the dough
My dough is too soft, I add more flour, hahahaha
Second dough is just right and sticky to fingers

Buns ready for frying
Oil for frying buns
Frying buns in oil
First time, oil was too hot and the buns begin to burn as soon as they are dropped in oil. I had to turn off the heat and wait for oil to cool a bit before frying more buns.
Buns fry golden brown
Well fried buns
My burnt buns. This happened because oil was too hot when I put in the buns.
Fried buns on napkins to drain oil
Well fried buns

Fried buns on a plate
Tasty whitish Nigerian buns
Lovely buns
Oh well, For learners like me, please don't form by trying to correct me o. Kindly allow the professionals to do the corrections. Love y'all.

  3. I think you should work more on your moulding, to get a very fine spherical shape. The moulding looks a bit rough here.

    1. If you do that, you'll get something like a round yellow-ish meat pie. It wouldn't be like buns, Athink.

  10. Nice attempt Eya. But I'm curious about the whitish look o.

The whitish look is beause she must have rubbed flour in her hand while moulding the dough and did not wipe the balls before frying.
Next time may be you wipe or bush some oil on the moulded dough before frying. #FromAnotherLearner

  15. Pls what's d diff btw the recipe for buns and the one for kpof kpof? I remember differentiating dem when I wna get frm a vendor by referring to buns as potato-like and kpof kpof as plantain-like

    1. Buns is hard at the surface
      Puff puff is soft

Buns contains no yeast hence the hardness
Puff puff contains yeast, which causes the dough to rise hence the puffiness.
