When To Change Bras, Tights And Towels

Towel

Hi Aunty Eya,

I don’t know what you do and how you do it but, I must say thank you. The way that people
open up on your blog is amazing. People are so sincere with advice, they are honest you could feel it when reading a comment. Again, people feel so relaxed on your blog that they leave very expressive long comments. Kudos to you and to God be the glory sha. I hope you know it is God? Maybe it’s also because you are very open. You don’t deceive your readers in any way. Even that your kitchen eh, if I enter it by chance, I will know this is Aunty Eya’s kitchen. I love that There is no forming on Eya’s blog at all. When I leave comments on your blog, it’s like I had forgotten how to form the way I do in other places. Here I just let it all out. Abi you use juju for me?

Aside from all the blabs, Aunty mi, I know so much about parenting, I know how to criticize and judge people a lot. I know what should and what should not be done. However, there is one little thing that has surpassed me.
My 8 year old just started using tights this week ( I don’t want her to grow dark skin in between her thighs, she is big and I suspect her laps may be rubbing themselves when she walks or runs). She wanted to know how many times she can wear a tight before dumping in the laundry basket. For underpants, she knows we have to change every time we have a bath. Now, because tights do not really come in contact with “the snail,” I didn’t know how to answer her. Should we change tights  too  daily, weekly, once in two days or how. Please I want to give her an answer when she comes back from school. Help a sister.

Again, apart from the tights, I have a problem with knowing when to change my bras. Sometimes, like during Harmattan, because I don’t sweat, I tend to wear a bra for up to a week before washing. When I sweat, I automatically change that bra, but when I don’t and it’s a colour like black, I have no idea the number of times to wear before washing.

Another thing is towels. Please, can you tell me how often to wash towels? I wash every week. On Saturdays, all towels and bed sheets in my house are washed. These towels are heavy and I feel we are overdoing the washing. Is washing a towel once a month not OK? Especially if it’s not a white colour. Can one use a towel for at least two or three weeks before washing?

Please Aunty Eya help me post this, I want to do a laundry timetable in my house and I want to also have this knowledge with me. Please help.
Dee

  2. I love dis post. I'm so eager to hear d responses. I lived outside d country for a long time and wen I moved back 2 naija a year ago I noticed this whole tights craze! It felt wierd to me that wearing tight under ur garment is a MUST for nigerian women. It even sounded funny wen I heard that if u don't wear it, ur inner thighs goes dark. Lol.
I'm light skinned and have neva worn tights under my clothings even now dat I'm in d country and my thighs r nice and light. No darkness watsoeva. The only tights I have worn are fishnets in the winter or under short outfits in d UK. I'm so surprised ppl give so much meaning to wearing tights here. I don't believe its d reason for dark tights. Just my observations. Thank you.

  5. I'm with you on the bra thing. I do exactly what you do. As for my tight, I wear one twice before it hits the lundry. My almost seven year old daughter is on the big side and after a period of denial and early signs of darkening around her thighs, I had to get tights oh. In fact, the ones I saw in the market were the nylon ones so I just picked three of her cotton leggins and cut them short. She wears one for each day, just like her school uniform, laundry is every wednesday and saturday. It's all good. I recommend the daily usage, those kids play and sweat in school plus school bus, can't stand the thought of her using it twice. I will rather have her go without one.

  7. Well, for me, bras, tights, panties, singlets, camisoles, shimmies, underskirt…which one again? Whatever they are called…should be one once and changed especially for teenagers who sweat alot. The trick is to buy many of each. Although I have a lot of bras, I have some favorites.and sometimes I have to wash it at night so I can wear the next day especially if it will go well with my planned outfit. So Naija weather does not favour repeating underwear of any kind…in fact clothes in general especially tops.

One thing that some of my male friends told me one day and I was shocked. They said that they can smell a girl's 'thingies' when she is not clean. They also said they can smell when a girl has just finished having sex and hasnt taken her bath. They said they can smell dirty hair too…just by standing close to a girl. Abeg guys in the house, na true?

Since then I have had a fear for anything that can cause body odour. I suggest that once she comes home, she should take her bath and change into shorts, without panties. (Let the area breathe) And btw, you just ruined snails for me…thanks! Lool.

For me towels are once a week. I dnt mind if they are frayed and faded, as long as they smells clean, I'm ok.

  8. Instead of tights for my daughters, I encourage them to wear boxers as pants.Mainly because my older daughter has a big bum and pants hardly cover or always sticking in d middle. Its nt common in Nig to get for girls so I always buy anytime am out of the country. They are crazy abt it. Lols.

  10. Sharing of towels is a no!no! even amongst siblings. Everyone sld have theirs especially kids, you wouldn't want them to spread infections such as ringworms, chicken pox or even dandruff to each other.Wash your towels once a week, always have extras. you can wear your bra and tights 2ce, but if you are on your period, change your tights everyday.

Smelly hair and mouth odour is a no no for me. Still hated one girl uptill now coz of the kind smell I perceived when trying to dance with her at a friend's bday party.
Usually tell my ex dat my fav part of her body is her hair, asin I always bury my nose their, plz I mean d hair on her head. It smells like a baby's hair and very soft.
Having a brother like ne,my sisters know what it entails, i don't litter the bathroom with ur undies and when u use ur pad make sure I don't even see the empty pack.If not imma avoid u like plague for d next 3days. Poor me.

  16. Na wa o, people that wash their bra's every 2 days una well done lol. I wash mine when I notice it's dirty by checking the straps and band (if it's a black bra, I go by the tag). It's not hat I continuously wear a bra till it gets dirty but I interchange, I believe in allowing my bra's to breathe.

Back to the tights issue, I've never worn one before and I doubt if ever I will.

  18. I wash our towels weekly on saturdays precisely, beddings I wash very other week, pants I change everyday, vests and bras depends on d weather if in winter and no sweat 2-3 times summer I change daily. Tights depends on how long in day I wear them, if I'm off 2 church or d shops for 2hrs and back I'll wear it again if a working day (7-8hrs) I'll put in d laundry basket.

I see nothing wrong on sharing towel with ur wife or hubby. At home we have our individual towels but wen we go on holiday myself and hubby share a towel as it means packing less and having a lighter lauggage. Ahdaisy if u live in a cold country ur undies can't b dried outdoors o, we make do with indoor airers, radiators or tumble dryers.

Poster for your daughter I'll suggest changing tights every 2 days. I would have said everyday but at her age she hasnt started having vag discharge that smells. Some girls don't wipe properly after doing a wee or some rush to do a quick wee and d rest slips through d pant and tight and therefore will smell. If she falls into this category then its best to change her tights everyday.

  19. Lool..@ pls I mean the hair on her head…which one e wan be before?…lool. I also dnt like that undies in the bathroom thing especially when you share a bathroom with others.

And about the hair, hm…women and weaves…wetin we go do na?… A lot of guys dnt bother burying their faces in our hair..I mean between the grease and all, they just look for all other romantic positions…:-)

Anyway, some people think it's by emptying a bottle of perfume on their bodies. There are little things that count. And perfume only makes body odour worse. Some of these 'beauty' soaps we ladies use dnt help matters. I use Tetmosol. Dettol soap is also good but I am a voltron for Tetmosol. If you want a better skin, eat right, workout, avoid sun, exfoliate and moisturize and maybe buy a good normal body cream.

  20. I think its ok for her to change her tight every 2days since she's still very young. I change beddings every week and towels after 2weeks but i change my son's towel every week. I wear one bra for 2days but if i had an activity filled day that resulted in me been all sweaty then i throw my bra right into my laundry bag

Like AhDaisy said above, for real as a guy you can smell every dirty part of a women when just close (even without being intimate). We can smell when a girl just had sex, period (I must admit, some ladies don't give out single odor during periods) and we can smell dirty bra on boobs… Hehehehee! I haven't tried it b4 oh, sm1 told me!

  29. i think majority of the people that wear tights do so cos their thighs rub against each other. if my thighs don't rub against each other, God knows i will never wear tights cos i don't like them especially when i wear a fine dress or skirt and the lines of the tights are obvious. i don't like it and VPLs (Visible Pant Lines), they make me sick!!! whenever i see VPLs on a lady, i feel like throwing up. that's why i wear thongs all the time even when i'm on my P. thankfully i don't have heavy flows. i don't even flow at night.lool

  30. I'll recommend she wears the tights daily. Children sweat, play and are not really mindful of their bodies. Besides it would help her maintain a clean routine i.e she will grow up feeling that her tights have to be washed daily thus maturing into a very neat and beautiful girl. As for the bra's, sincerely, I wash it when i feel it's dirty but i change them all the time…I hardly wear them (especially when I am at home) because most of them are too tight and uncomfortable.

  31. yes they do. G-strings do not have the lines we dread. it doesn't show the whole world the shape of your panties you know like when a lady is wearing a body con or Lycra dress and wearing full panties and you see the whole line of them. its utterly disgusting!!

  32. It depends. Just spread them in a place where air can get to them. It doesn't have to be outside. And with the rains around now, you have to think twice before leaving them. outside. It also depends on where you live.

  33. Tetmosol is bad for the skin in the long run. It predisposes to different skin infections and strips the normal protective layer of the skin

  34. I would suggest that she changes her tights daily especially on school days.

As for bra issue I am a freak when it comes to that. I invest loads of money on my bras, I just can't stop buying them. I usually wear mine 2 to 3 times before a wash, although depends on the color and I might wear today and not wear it the next day maybe because it does not go well with my chosen outfit.

For towels I wash ones a week.
