Light shredded beef sauce

 Shredded beef sauce is one easy sauce that can be whipped within a few minutes yet tastes so good. can be cooked thick or light depending on how you want it. To thicken, just add baking flour and that's all. To give it that Chinese twist if you like Chinese, add soy sauce and oyster sauce. Here I cooked this for my Nigerian palate. Light and delicious.


  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large bulb red onion
  • 1kg shredded beef
  • 1 small bunch (3) spring onion
  • 1 cup chopped cabbage
  • 1 Teaspoon ground fresh pepper
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 2 stock cubes
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup water

  1. Heat oil in a fry pan or wok till very hot. Add the onion and spring onion without the green leaves. Add salt and stock cubes.
  2. Stir briskly for about 20 seconds before adding the shredded beef. Mix well and cover to simmer  till the red beef changes colour and brings out juices.
  3. Check for salt (taste) before adding the remaining ingredients; cabbage, carrots, water. Check again for taste, stir for a few seconds but do not allow the greens to over cook or get wilted before turning off the heat.
Serve light shredded beef sauce with boiled rice, spaghetti Etc.
