LADY DECLINES INVITATION TO COOK WITH BOYFRIEND’S MUM

This discussion is happening Online right now with many condemning her actions. Lady went to visit her boyfriend’s mum for the first time. She meets the family cooking in the kitchen and gets invited to joining in the cooking but she refuses. Didn’t understand why they’ll invite her to cook instead of welcoming and entertaining her considering this is her first visit.

Many also praise her for standing her grounds and demanding. These group of people are angry that a mother-in law would invite someone that just came to meet the family for the very first time to join in the cooking. ‘It’s her first visit’ they say.

For me, I take sides with the group blaming her. Why? Her boyfriend’s mum is old enough to be her mother. Even if you didn’t feel like cooking, should have joined her and perhaps just kept her company with sitories in the kitchen. To the future mother-In Law, that invitation is symbolic. Shows that her son’s girlfriend is loved and has been accepted into the family and doesn’t need any treatment like she’s a stranger or a visitor.

Declining will make the old woman see this lady as not a good girl. If you were not invited and you decide to just sit in the living room without bothering, fine.

However, in this case she got invited. “Lady, next time see this as an order and just obey, it won’t kill you. No one will ask her to pound yam or wash fresh fish. The old woman only wanted to make her feel welcome, feel like a member of the family.

Do you think she is right or wrong for declining to join mama in the kitchen?
