Mum who gave birth in prison after being

Mum who gave birth in prison. A mum who spent 18 months in prison after being convicted of faking her own rape says she “finally” has enough information to prove her innocence.
Layla Ibrahim was jailed in 2010 and served half of a three year sentence after being found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
She had been accused of fabricating a sexual assault by two men in January 2009 in her hometown of Carlisle.
Sentencing her, the judge labelled Layla “wicked” and said she had faked the attack because she “craved attention” and wanted to “teach [her friends] a lesson”.

The mother gave birth behind bars but was advised by barristers not to appeal her conviction because no new information had come to light. Layla Ibrahim was sentenced to three years in prison in 2010 after being found guilty of perverting the course of justice.

However, speaking to the BBC this week, she said she was ready to go again before the courts to prove her innocence.
Layla told the Victoria Derbyshire programme : “I want my name cleared. I’ve always fought for this – I’ve not just spent eight years sitting around, I’ve tried and always wanted to do it.
“At the very beginning the police believed me, but within three or four days it was becoming evident they didn’t.”
She has asked the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) to look again at her case.
Her legal team claims there was crucial evidence missed in the original investigation, including leggings, shoes, and a bloodstained ring that was not tested for DNA evidence, the BBC reports .
Layla suffered a blow to her head, had scratches and bruising to her knees, breasts and face, and was bleeding from the vagina after the alleged attack.
