Woman suffers a miscarriage after watching robbers batter her husband to a pulp

A heartbroken husband battered in a vicious street attack has lost his first child – after his traumatised wife who witnessed the beating suffered a miscarriage.

Shabaz Shakat was targeted by a gang of five – one woman and four men – in broad daylight outside his home.

The 32-year-old was beaten to a “bloody pulp” with a metal steering wheel lock after the thugs tried to break into his house, Birmingham Live says.

The yobs also smashed away at his car in the attack near Moseley, Birmingham.

Shabaz’s petrified wife, six weeks pregnant at the time, was forced to watch the brutal beating from the upstairs bedroom window.

The mum-of-four, who doesn’t want to be named, soon went into a state of shock as Shabaz lay in the street in a pool of his own blood.

She lost her baby in hospital two days later.

“I’ve just lost my first baby,” said Shabaz.

“My beautiful wife has just miscarried because of this, watching me get battered and left for dead from the upstairs window.

“They tried to burst into my house and battered me to a bloody pulp. I just wanted to defend my house, defend my wife.

“My wife has been through devastating trauma. She has had a miscarriage and she watched me get beaten up from the top of our window in our house by five people.

“I had my head cracked open by a metal bar, which was part of a steering wheel lock. I suffered three broken ribs and I’m lucky I’m alive. They didn’t finish me off.

Shabaz, who married his wife back in January, added: “We’re devastated, furious, hurt, heartbroken. We’ve been robbed of our little baby, our first together.”

His wife has four children – aged seven, eight, 10 and 11 – with her first husband, who died in a car crash in Moseley seven years ago.
