HOW DO YOU TEACH A CHILD TO FIGHT BACK?

Hello Aunty Eya. Thank you for all I have learnt in this short time of finding your blog. On Christmas day, we were just cruising around the Internet looking for assorted foods to cook for Christmas when we landed on your blog.

After getting good results from your fried rice recipe, I decided to visit the blog again and have become addicted already.  I honestly love your parenting tips and would need advice from the blog. My son is always complaining of a particular boy that bullies him in school. We went, saw his teacher and even reported to the principal who promised to handle the matter.

Just yesterday, he came back sad. Another child hit him and as a christian am scared that telling him to hit back might not e the best solution. My husband disagrees and has already advised him to hit back any child that hits him before reporting.

Is it ok to teach a child to hit back after all the sermons we hear about forgiveness? I’m kind of a bit confused. What is the right lesson to teach a child on this subject please? How do you teach? Is it ok to ask your child to hit back at another child before reporting to the teacher?

  1. Dear poster. I don’t k now about other parents. This matter is dicey o. For me as a mother, I hate to see my child crying to report that another child hit them especially if that child is their size or smaller. What I ask them is..” Do you expect me to go fight your mate for you? No way’

I teach my kids not to look for trouble and never to hit. However, if another child hits them, they should defend themselves unless the other child is bigger. Better to hit back and report that he hit you first than to take the bully’s beating crying.

The reporting will come after some self defence. Bully’s always have different ways of coming back if they know the other child is scared of them. The kids we teach this to are actually below 10 of course. Kids should know that it’s wrong to hit and should also know that it’s not wrong to defend himself against a bully.
