Eya Girl At The Gym Burning Calories

Really panting here, yet no sweat making it look like I ‘m not serious.

It’s fun trying to lose weight and live healthy. Can’t afford to over work my small blood pumping heart. I hardly sweat and don’t like it. After all the exercises and panting, the only clothing item on me that tasted sweat was the sports bra, every other thing looked like I just woke up from a restful sleep. I didn’t know that even without sweating much sef, one can still burn calories. I burnt close to 200 at just this first visit.

With a body weight of 87.3kg as at arrival at the gym, I need to lose but, come to think of it, I am tall so, it’s not that bad. If I can lose just 10kg, I’ll just maintain. My ideal weight is 75kg, here I know the body is healthy and the heart is not overworked. So help me God. Yes, I need this prayer cos I wanted to gym daily but was asked to make it four times per week. My next appointment was supposed to have been last weekend and here I am still planning to. It takes a lot of determination and hardwork and sacrifice.

I love to exercise, and, gymming everyday wouldn’t have been a problem but right now it is a bit of a challenge because the two men that carried Mr young man while I exercised saw hell. He was ready to scream his lungs out until Mummy appears. If I was keeping him at the daycare or even a nanny would have really really made things easy but for where? I’m not allowed to enjoy any of these privileges now.

Hubby says he
just learnt that some daycare centres administer sleeping medication to babies in their care so, no daycare for his boy. Ok, I agreed and said “fine a nanny would do… Right now, I can’t even have a nanny cos he has also kicked against that. Imagine my life now, becoming the full time nanny of a baby after 5 kids? Not easy at all. If you see what I go through caring for my attention seeking cute cry baby all alone. Thank God I still get help with house keeping if not I don’t know what I’d be doing. Maybe just run away for a me-alone-vacation.

You might think looking after one’s baby shouldn’t be a problem and yes, I’m not complaining o. It’s very very fun, however, it doesn’t give me time to even blog cos there is no phone I hold to even read comments, that my son won’t grab and break or crack the screen. Blogging? Hehehe, as soon as I sit with a laptop, he becomes what I cannot describe, fights with all his might, struggles with his last breath just to click on the keypad. He is so mesmerized by gadgets that I don’t know if it’s because he’s a boy.

Nothing stops him from fighting for any gadget mummy is holding. His sleeping and nap moments would have been perfect for my ‘ Eya Alone Time’ But for where? He is the lightest sleeper I ever know. Even a whisper from outside the house can wake him up. I have never seen a baby with such short nap periods o. If I back him and he falls asleep, once his head touches a pillow, the two shiny eyes automatically open. Then, at night, everyone goes to bed leaving me and him awake, I try to put him to sleep before it’s late, NO WAY.My lovely boy stays awake untiiiiiiiiiiil mummy is feeling sleepy and then we fall  asleep together. I miss the days of blogging late, watching a movie or just reading a book when the kids are off to bed cos this baby kid? His own sleep starts when I can no longer keep an eyelid open.

Jara pic of my young man learning to ride a bike

Walked about 4km on the threadmill, not sure.

This christian mother hand must go. Babysitting after 5 no easy jor.

I fall asleep before him or many times, fall asleep while trying to put HIM to sleep. I’m thinking that after seven years, it’s possible I forgot the rules and tricks or that this baby is just different o. His father is not even helping matters at all. If only I’m alloed to get a nanny or keep baby in a daycare for a few hours per week, I’ll be fine. Well like I said, I’m not complaining, he is already 8 months so by God’s grace, when he starts walking, things should return to normal.

My SIL even suggested I help him sleep with a few drops of phernegan to enable me relax too sometimes but hubby won’t take that, says ‘baby must be left to fall asleep and wake up naturally’ which is not beans o. Anyway, I don’t blame no one cos, inability to fall sleep or sleep through the night is so much in the genes of one man I know.

Chai!!! I just turned my beautiful gym post into another rant cos I needed to just offload my chest. No vex abeg.

Ok, back to the gym matter … My goal is to lose 10 kg only. Portion control was never difficult, but these days, I don’t know, hunger drives me to the kitchen even at 11pm, I need your prayers to successfully drop this my newcomer Christian mother hands. Wanted to look slim and lepacious before Christmas, I hope. All things are possible if I believe.

  1. Thank you for ranting Eya because you saved me from doing so!!! I had a good laugh and it feels better knowing I am not alone> I go to work all day and go home to continue with baby-sitting and weekends are such a blur they come and go so quick! My baby girl also loved gadgets to a fault and her nap lasts 5 mins unless you lie beside her and hold her!!! As for weight loss plans…..*coughs*…..it ends in my beans diet plan! No time for gym! More grace dear…..I pray you succeed!

  3. PLz rant, its sometimes good for your mental health. I totally feel you aunty Eya. My 16month old son was and is still the same. He started nursery at 10months as I had to return to work and I was completely drained all the time looking after 3 kids. Even at 16months he controls his older siblings and yells just for giving him the stop it 'look'. I have started introducing smacking on the back of his palms o. I lose my voice often from yelling at my kids n my neighbours must think I've gone mad.
You really make gyming look good, no sweat or tired look. Keep trying to convince your hubby about the nanny, at least she'll be in your house and you can keep an eye on her caring for your boy. Really looking good after 5kids I must say.

I had to stop the gym for now bcos I do 'few hours vigil' (baby wakes up like twice to eat then sees the moment as a perfect play time. I stay awake till he gets tired then sleeps off) am expected to go to d gym by 6am,return to fix breakfast, bathe baby then drop him with my sibblings then go to work. For now I am simply cutting down my meals and praying it works.please if weight loss foods that can help us(nigerian dishes) can be discused,I feel it will help nursing mothers.I am tired of eating plantain amalar continuosly.lol

  8. Abi o, All things are possible if you believe 🙂
The hunger pangs can also be due to the new exercise routine, but with time your body will adjust to the rhythm.
I stopped going to the gym after I got zumba dance fitness and insanity CDs. I play them at home and at the same time babysit. The zumba was easier and fun and I lost 15 kg ,just dancing, but the insanity was something else.
If you can get it at the stores, you'll enjoy exercise at home and won't have to bother with the gym. More power to you Sweetie 🙂

  12. No Bella, you are not alone sis and beans is very good but watch the quantity. You know portion control helps. Fighting over gadgets? I hide my phone so much that I am now known for missing calls a lot. When I lie down, my phone is under the pillow; when I sit, it's under the seat. When in the kitchen, it's in a cabinet. So help me God! I'll share my success story by his grace.

  14. He's sixteen months already? You'll soon be free Lizzy. I hope that smacking is allowed over there o? please be careful and maybe make use of the calm down or sober corner or whatever you guys call it over there. Over here in naija, smacking at the back of the palm is peanut na. Even though can't remember when last I used them but I have two canes in my house, the ones sold at the market. Just holding them alone is enough to make the girls behave. I take it even in the car to make them and it works o. Once they see mummy carrying a cane, everyone behaves, they don't even remember when I used it on them but just behave.
Nanny??? I will try again sometime.
    Thanks Lizzy.

  15. Which Christian Mother hand are you talking about? Chai women! we can worry o. I saw your pics on instagram sister Debs, that what you call Mama hand? You are still fit o. Now I won't blame myself for not being able to create time to come look for you yet. I see we share some similar schedules of daily feeling exhausted and sleep deprivation. I'm not saying it's an excusable excuse sha o. Bear with me dear, I'll surely come to welcome you to Abj. Gym is not the only way jor. I want to also try that Zumba dance Nky the chief chef is talking about. Don't know where to look for the Cd in Abuja. If you can tune into a music channel and just dance along until you sweat it out, you are good. You know when one is stressed, she tends to eat too much. God help us. For this week, I haven't eaten after 6pm yet and pray for the grace to continue.

  16. Yes dear, I know. But, there were times I didn't have any domestic help and used to back baby to clean o. There are no permanent ones over here, so, when one leaves, I go back to house keeping until I find another and sometimes it takes long. What saves me from cooking straight from hospital is that before my EDD, ICOOK AND FREEZE cos cooking straight from hospital, washing and cleaning can make you fall ill if not that you are a very strong woman.
When you feel like crying, please cry o. Me, I no send o, if the kids like let them catch me crying. When I'm overwhelmed, I break down and when they ask "Mummy why are your eyes red?" I tell them it's because I'm not in a good mood, because I need time for myself too, I need rest, I need to sleep without setting the alarm to wake me up, I need sleep and can't get it like them, then you see them suggesting how they'd like to help out, rubbing powder on my face and taking turns to massage me. Combining family with Schooling is not beans but God will see you through and you'll surely smile at last.

  18. Sorry Eya,its really not easy. My husband devised a method and since then my son sleeps through the night. Give your baby a bath around 8.30 or 9pm and after feeding him if you didn't feed before the bath, switch off the light.Since we started it my son becomes quiet after his night bath mentally preparing for sleep, lol. Even if he wakes up for food at night, feed him with a small lamp or torch.Don't play with him at night, if he's weaned or has started taking breast and formula give him formula before bedtime because it's heavier than breastmilk. If he's weaned, give him his cereal or pap whichever he /she takes very well at night to hold his tummy, goodluck. For those asking about the zumba just buy on Amazon. If you have anyone returning from America or abroad beg the person to help you. For an easier workout you can try Leslie Sansone Walk away the pounds or so dvds. They're easier to do.

The lord is your strength, for now, leave the gym alone until later, that is if number two does not arrive soon after o. Nigerian dishes for weight loss? maybe eating just vegetable soups without swallow and then lil moi moi, akara, and quantity very important.
    Thanks Baby Sykes.

How long did it take you to lose the 15kg please. Can you share your weight before you last all that? If I can just drop 10, I'll be fine o.
    Thank you.

  24. Have you gone back to the hospital for your postnatal checks? Please do that let the Doctors look at it. I know a mom whose baby stomach stays for as long as a year before it starts returning to normal. There also some medical issues that can prevent the womb from returning back to normal position after birth. Try and see a midwife or Doctor.

He dribbles a lot and doesn't each much but can suck Breast for Africa, he is refusing bottle in the middle of the nite only Breast we had a battle at 11.30pm which is when he wakes up for his feed after he has slept at 7pm, I put bottle he cried. I kept on putting bottle his crying got louder, Breast doesn't fill him up o but he is refusing bottle I dunno wot I'm gona do. I'm going to have to not give in tonite he will take that bottle by force, if he likes let him cry so his father can hear him in naija he will take that bottle hehe

  29. Thanks ma, what I did was when it is 6pm I give him his last bottle or Breast sometimes he is not hungry so doesn't take food so I just leave him and then around 6.30 I back him by 6:45 my son is singing lol by 7pm he is sleeping. By 7.30pm I put him on the bed. If I'm tired I sleep also if not I stay awake tidy my house before I go to sleep. But it is cold in th uk at the mo and I'm lazy or else instead at 6pm I would have bathed him give him bottle then back him but naija is hot so you can bath him before you feed him if your able to. Also my son is use to backing he even cries for it before but now he knows when I back him it is sleep time. If I back him during the day he falls asleep if I put him down he will wake up after 10mins but the bed time backing he does not wake but if he wakes I don't talk or play with him so within 2min he will fall asleep by himself. You have to persevere Aunty eya and he will get use to it, you can give him his last feed anytime from 5.30pm so you know that 6-7 is for bathing and encouraging sleep. Remember don't play with him or allow anyone to play with him around this time because he will not sleep o. You can back him in a dark room and be patient while you play on your phone don't worry he will sleep or back him while you do housework he will sleep off. Let me know how it goes if you need further tips but persevere for a week min and see how it goes

    Good luck ma

  30. So sorry for the late response Aunty Eya, it is not like makosa ooo, but honestly one can actually loose weight with makosa, all that shaking and shaking ..the weight must surely drop :).

The zumba dance is a wide mix of latin and other dances, by the time you are done, you'll learn how to dance hip-hop, samba, salsa and merengue :D.

I lost the 15kg in 3 months and I wasn't even consistent because of the baby, but I felt really good. I weighed 52 b4 preg and 70 after baby, I also think Breastfeeding helped a lot too.

Hi Esohe, congrats on ur bundle of joy, i have a 5 almost 6 months old baby girl, i started her off on formula (sma gold) at 3 weeks while supplementing breast, at close to 4 months d formula wasn't holding the hunger o, so I had to make guinea corn pap for her, went and bought the grains washed n grinded, started adding the pap to made up milk, so yes to ur question, u can start pap or gerber rice n milk cereal, i want to add gerber cereal to her diet now as well… cheers.
