Aunty, thanks for the recipe on shawarma ,turned out lovely.but my hubby that got the bread also bought spring roll pastry and he said”

talk to that your aunty that cooks, to send you the recipe for spring rolls”
So pls, help post the recipe and steps to preparing spring rolls.thanks,God bless

Add a few drops of vegetable oil, soya or olive oil to fry pan

Spring rolls come in different variants; chicken spring rolls, beef spring rolls, shrimp spring rolls, vegetable spring rolls and so on. They are very tasty and  save time when thinking of what to put in kids lunchboxes. They are best wrapped with paper bags because foil can’t absorb any oils and as such makes them oily.

Remove spring rolls from pack  while waiting for fry pan to get hot
add spring rolls to hot oil. Keeping them for too long in the freezer could be the reason why the skin is falling off
Let spring rolls brown before flipping sides
spring rolls should brown for as much as you want them to

This is how I prepare my spring rolls. Can you share with us how you make yours?

  2. Aunty Eya, I think Spring rolls are kinda deep fried. Pls anyone who knows how to make it from scratch should help. I dnt really trust all these store bought mixes. But if it works for you. That's ok cos at least you dnt have to crack ur brain every time the kids lunch boxes come.

I know it entails making the dough, preparing the filling, rolling out the dough, putting in the filling, then roll and deep fry. What I dnt know is the exact recipe for the dough and filling, these filling consists of onion, spices and meat? Fish? Not sure.

  3. Hi Ahdaisy, I think it's shallow frying o. The dough will soak oil if u deep fry. That's what I was told sha o.
You are so right about making the dough, that could be what Teekay is asking for. The dough has to be rolled really really flat and kind of fried slightly before adding the filling, wrapping, and frying finally. To save me that early morning stress and save the kids from lateness to school. I quickly just prepare it this way. Lol!
Maybe that's why they don't each much when I pack spring rolls. *RME*

  4. Sis Eya, Ahdaisy is right, spring roll is deep fried. If ur pan was full of oil n u fry it like u do akara or puff puff it'll come out nice n crisy without falling apart. U tried but from what I can see from d pix, ur spring roll was falling apart. I believe the lady who requested you teach her how to make it wanted u to teach her from scratch as her hubby already bought the pastry. I have no clue on how to make it but I'm sure it can be googled. Lizzy

  5. Spring rolls are originally deep fried, but due to health reasons people now fry with little oil in frying pans or even baking. The choice is yours, really! The original way, however,is,deep frying. Usually People refer to use pre-made wraps from the store, usually, oriental stores. They are cut in square shapes and stacked inside a polyethylene bags,as we have in sliced breads. If you however to make yours from scratch ,you can ! But,I must warn you it is a long process. I will come with how to,afterwards. You have a choice of what filling yo want in it,vegetable only or a mixture of meat & vegetable. In which case you will need, ground pork, usually sold in stores, cabbage, carrots, sesame oil, scallions or green onions, egg whites, salt & which ever oil you choose to fry it in. Canola oil is the oil of preference here. You chop your cabbage & carrots in thin strips & set aside. Put about 2 TBS of canola in Your frying pan & when it has heated up,pour your ground pork in & sauté turning frequently, until the meat has turned brown. Add your cabbage & carrots, turning until cooked, not over cooked, but crunchy adding salt to taste & just before you take off heat, add a tsp of sesame oil. Set aside. Take your wrap & place on a flat surface,in a diamond shape, facing you. Put some of the filling inside at the beginning & start wrapping. Half way through wrapping, fold the side in,then continue wrapping. When done, seal the inside of the edges, with egg whites. Now it's ready to be deep fried. Enjoy! Will come back with how to make your wrap from scratch, later. Have a great day

  6. Forgot to add that you put a little salt in the pork while sautéing it,before adding the vegetables. The chopped green onions, the green part, goes in last before you set the mixture aside.

  7. Eya,I deep fry frozen samosa/spring rolls and it comes out crunchy and doesn't soak oil. D trick is to fry in hot oil and after frying;putting directly on paper towels. Try ds and u'll see how nice it'll be! Making it from scratch is one tin u don't want 2 do! Its so tedious. I always have a guy come around 2 make in bulk 4 storage &it takes a whole day. D process is much abeg, better 2 just buy. Funke.

  8. Also forgot to add that you soak the pre-made wraps in a wide bowl of warm water first to soften, before you use it. This makes it easy for the dough to be pliant, easy to roll, avoiding cracking.

  15. Making d skin is not so tedious if Чöü are Ϟö† making plenty…it's a simple mix of flour and pinch of salt. Add some water t̶̲̥̅̊☺ form a batter with a consistency like that of puff puff…heat a dry non stick fry pan a little, scoop a little batter in your hand and rub inside †ђξ fry pan. Smooth out †ђξ finger lines and be careful t̶̲̥̅̊☺ spread thinly and evenly, return to heat. In less than a minute, Чöü should be able to peel off †ђξ skin off †ђξ fry pan. Repeat till †ђξ batter is finished. Чöü can fill with stir fried vegetables, or shrimp and mayonnaise. Enjoy.
