My Old Frying Pan And Fraulein Maria’s Dress

 my fry pan on duty

My old frying pan has lived with me longer than my 12 year old baby girl.  It has seen better days. It used to be the best, (not Alaba International Market best o). It was
the favorite of every member of my household then. It worked and performed better than many other non stick frying pans, and even managed to live longer than all.

Sister Anonymous feels like this frying pan needs a replacement, and Yes! I agree.
The first time Anonymous left that comment, I just laughed and passed. The next time, I took a long look at the frying pan. Then, suddenly, anonymous complains again about my old frying pan, it then dawned on me that there is need for an apology or a replacement.

I thought about disposing it, but, this material is not recyclable, it will remain stay put where ever it is dumped, and that doesn’t help our Planet Earth. I thought about giving it out *#straightface* and then, told myself that no one will accept this. Some old things are better kept and utilized by the one who saw their earlier beauty. Another person will have no value nor use for it.

When I give, I try to give out what  The Recipient can honestly appreciate. I was taught not to give to another, anything that has become useless because they may not appreciate my gesture. It is more profitable to give what we still love, that way, it will be loved by the recipient too.

One bad thing about me is that I hate waste,  I am allergic to waste. Remember when I blogged that I don’t throw away even fish heads. I dry my smoked fish heads, grind, sieve and use in powdered form, so, you can imagine. I don’t throw things away. I can’t remember pouring even left over food away. Why should I?  when there are people who will appreciate that meatless soup or the butter less bread, all around me.
For the frying pan, I don’t see who needs an old frying pan like this. I think my neighbors deal with Automatic Frying pans, if there is any thing like that.

If you have seen “The Sound Of Music,” Then, you already know the relationship between this frying pan and the movie: Fraulein Maria tells the Captain with seven children that she has no worldly possessions, because, she gave away every thing before moving into the convent. He then looks at the old dress on her, and asks who has that? Maria says it’s hers, and that, she still has that one because even the poor rejected it.
When she leaves the convent to go baby sit these seven kids, the old, rejected, ugly dress becomes her only possession. Every one, even the poorest of the poor did not accept Fraulein Maria’s dress because It’s too ugly.

Due to  the age of my frying pan, some times, I crop my pictures to the extent that one would think I am hiding something. I try not to offend my blog readers with the face of an old frying pan.

Come to think of it, the only problem with this frying pan is the wrinkles as a result of age. It still performs maximally.

To you my dear Anonymous, please, kindly stop harassing me about that frying pan naa. Just give me some time to think about what to do with it. I promise a replacement as soon as possible.
Thanks for your understanding! * wink wink*

  12. Hahaha! I understand where "Sister Anonymous" is coming from and I smiled the first time I saw your frying pan because, really for me, seeing you use your old frying pan is part of your charm. You are not some show-off executive chef with all the bells and whistles and I think that's what endears us to you. You are basically like one of us. The things in your kitchen are things you'll find in the most basic kitchen even one that uses kerosene stove. And this makes it easier for us who are just getting back the passion for cooking and eating right. As long as the utensils still serve their purpose, I see no reason to junk it because of aesthetics. Sister Anonymous, pls you and your colleagues who turn their noses up at Sis. Eya's old frying pan should give it a break biko. I also really think it's a form of snobbery which is really not attractive. For most of us that visit and learn from this blog it's part of her charm.

  13. Sorry Ella, I had to take my time opening all the stew posts. Now I am not sure. Try this one http://www.wivestownhallconnection.com/2013/01/my-boiled-rice-with-titus-peppered-fish.html

If that's not it, no wahala at all. just know that how I make my fish stew is by boiling the fish with salt and onion until tender.

The tomato or stew is made separately and then added to the fish and stock. ( I always have my preserved tomatoes which is already like stew except that there is no meat or fish in it. I add a little quantity of this to my boiled fish)
The pot is covered and allowed to simmer.
    That's all dear.

  14. Sis Eya, pls this my comment is off topic but it's urgent. I'm making moi-moi this weekend. It'll be my first time ever on my own and I'm using your recipe. I have a busy day tomorrow so was wondering if I could wash the beans ready for blending tomorrow morning at the market? My plan is to wash the beans this evening and keep in the fridge. Hope this won't affect the outcome.

  18. @ Mrs AJ, I am sorry I didn't see your comment early enough. saw it now. Hope my reply is not coming late.

Plastic bottles can be re used naa, as long as they are kept under very cold temperatures like in the fridge. The one that is dangerous to our health is when it is left for long in hot temperatures like in the car. I hear thaty can even lead to cancer if anyone drinks.

  19. People are attracted by what they see, especially when it comes to food. That is why many food bloggers use attractive and very spic and span pots, pans, and plates to do their stuffs. Presentation matters a lot, and if you wanna go pro in this thing, you just have to be flawless in presentation.

People like me can get away with using my grandma's 30 yr old kettle, but not you. You have a brand to build, and you should start thinking more along that line.

  20. Thanks Ailola, you? get away with it? no way naa.
