Successful blogging: Tips for busy wives, mothers and great bloggers

Earlier on, in a post I published before this one, I had talked on blogging tips for beginners and those who want to start blogging but have not really made up their minds. You can read it on this blog.

For the blogger wife, mother and very busy person, there is a very big temptation to reduce blogging to the very minimum or just postpone it till further notice. Here are a few tips to guide you in your journey into excellent blogging: I am going to take it under three sub headings:

  1. Tips for the busy wife blogger
  2. Tips for the busy mother blogger
  3. Tips and inspiration for the successful blogger
Being a wife comes with a lot of responsibilities, you are no longer attending to the needs of one, but two or more people. Any wife who can successfully include blogging, especially News blogging into her schedule deserves an award. Yes! I am not saying this because  Iam a wife, NO. I say this with confidence because I am still trying to do this successfully and can confirm that is is not an easy task for any wife.

Every blogger has a time of the day that they feel is most favourable for posting and being present online. Any blogger will want to dedicate this time fully to being online,
but when that blogger is a wife, or please permit me to say an “African wife,” There are so many family expectations and obligations struggling to replace her blogging “peak moments” with other duties.

Here are a few tips for you the wife who is also a blogger:
  • Try as much as possible to wake up earlier than usual and attend to your blog before other daily duties crawl into your time.

  • Be the last to go to bed after saying good night in a proper way to your blog by responding to comments, updating what needs to be updated and replying an email that needs your urgent answer.

  • Have a notepad and a biro or pencil in your bag always. This helps you jot down things that you may need when you go blogging later. We can be forgetful at times, so, it is good to immediately jot down inspiration as soon as it clicks in your head.

  • In case your Hunny is the type that falls asleep before you join him in bed, then go to bed as usual, but set your alarm in your phone so that it wakes you up later.

  • Remember that sacrifice pays off in the long run if we do not despair. Sacrifice a little sleep and it won’t kill.  Calculate the number of years we spend on earth, and deduct the hours we spend sleeping without doing anything, the result is alarming!

  • Try to narrow it down to what you are very comfortable with and can really write about. Focus on your niche, even though the temptation is there pulling you to cover every available topic, but narrowing it down is better than being a jack of all trade and mastering none. It is also better than carrying a load too heavy that will eventually drop leaving you with nothing.

  • Read my post  what works for wives and mothers to see how you can do better in areas of effective time management as a busy wife or mother.

  • Try to reduce the time spent on Social Networking Sites. Social networking is necessary to grow a new blog, the temptation to spend the whole day on Facebook, Twitter or other sites is very strong. If you spend time networking and marketting your blog, when readers come, there should be quality content that can sustain their interest and keep them attracted.
For the mommy blogger, getting the family involved is the first tip you need to know. Let them feel like owners of the blog and you can be assured of their cooperation and understanding. Here are a few more tips for you:
  1. Try not to neglect the family because of your blog, let them be part of it so that it becomes more fun.Let the kids understand what you are doing and there will be cooperation from them, rather than lock yourself up in a room and give instructions that you do not need to be disturbed. I can assure you that if you do not get the kids involved in the business, they will find ways to frustrate you with other kinds of things like banging  the door, crying over nothing and increased sibling rivalry just to get you out of your hiding.
  2. Plan you blogging ahead of time by keeping your notepad always with you to jot down even while in the kitchen. Any interesting idea that pops in the head, should be put down in the book.
  3. If kids are big enough, find ways of helping them too, because if not, you will need to share the computer time. You can help them by letting them have their computer which is different from the one you use for blogging. If you have to share one computer, they will definitely need it for one thing or the other at a time that is very crucial to your blogging. If you cannot get them a computer, a good phone that can connect the internet will do because their homework and other needs require that they go online too.
  4. Avoid cooking everyday by storing food in the freezer. Cook double the quantity needed so that you can use that time and give them what is already available. The reason I am not in the kitchen at this time cooking dinner is because there is stew already in the freezer, and boiling yam or plantain won’t take me up to thirty minutes and dinner is served. I cooked on Saturday and stored in the fridge and freezer, so that I won’t have to be spending long hours in the kitchen everyday.
  5. Try to avoid looking too serious with the blogging thing, do not look like you are really enjoying this blogging. If you do, they may just get jealous and begin to feel like blogging is taking you away from them. so, do it in a casual manner.
  6. Also try to avoid using your blog to do excessive promotion of your family as your readers may not even be too interested in what your family is wearing or the model of car you drive. Try to abide by what your blog introduction says.
  7. Do not over stretch yourself, when you don’t feel like it, then let it be. No one is looking over your shoulder to see whether you are actually blogging or not. Sometimes, watch your favourite movie, soap opera or just play a game and have fun. It can be refreshing to the mind.
I am not really a fan of long posts so, at this point, I beg to take the next topic to the next post. ( Blogging inspiration for the successful blogger).
If  you think that this tips can help you in any way along your blogging journey, please do leave us a comment. Thank you.
